Track in Florence, Italy

Ok, so i'm in Florence and im going to be here for a while and as i understand it, there's a sweet track here. Now my question is, how do i get in. I talked to a guy in the bike shop and he told me that its really just professionals that go there, but maybe he was wrong.

Does anyone out there have any inside info or knows somebody that knows somebody that can get me into the track, along with a bike? (I didnt bring my bike, i know...shameful)

This is all I got..from FixedGearFever..

"There's a track in the main city Park in Florence called "Cascine", it's near a place called Port al Prato beside the river. It's 333m concrete and it a "little rough", but fun to play on. NO ENGLISH IS SPOKEN, so be warned.

Enter the Park and go along the main through road and it's on your left, and if you go further on the road the local scarlet ladies can also be found so give them a wave for me"

I was there in October last year. It's really easy to find. The Florence football team was training there and it was all opened the afternoon I went for a look. Luckily for me though it was only 150m from my hotel.

They are right about all the prostitutes hanging around. I got propositioned!

Nah man. I didn't ride nothin' in Florence I was there following cultural pursuits with my family.

Zappcatt is right with his post - it did look a touch weathered, but certainly good enough to have a race on.

Can't help you with a shop specialising in track, though I believe there are one or two decent shops in Florence - my father stumbled across one and bought some gear when he was there a few years back - buggered if I know where though. Everytime I saw a bike shop in Italy they were closed for siesta!
