entry level bianchi

hi all.. i'm a mountain biker just getting an interest in track biking and i'm looking to get/build a bike. i've ridden my friend's chrome bianchi pista and i love it.. and its pretty cheap too. so my question is this... do you think it's a good entry bike? would it be wiser to buy the full stock bike or just the frame and build it up? i want to try and spend less than $600. by the way.. does anyone know where i can JUST the frame?

Bianchi do not sell just the frameset (they only sell Pista Concepts as a frameset, which is probably outside of your budget) so if you want one, look to the 2nd hand market. Have seen the odd frame for sale.

You will want to change the stock gearing for most tracks, speak to the instructors/racers at your local velodrome as to what gearing they would recommend.

I bought my Bianchi Pista for $550 last summer new at richardson bike mart.
I saw at a little shop in plano texas a new entry level bike by Windsor called
'the hour'- retails for $350. No idea if its good, but im sure there are writeups
online about it.

I have seen a few people with the Pista out at the local velo - and they really like it for exactly what you looking at if for: entry level.

As it has been mentioned, check eBay and Craigslist for just the frame. Otherwise, I recommend looking into the DeBernardi and EAI Bareknuckle framesets.

I've ridden mine on the track during training and in mock races, and I really like the way it handles. The stock gearing was a little low for me, so I installed a 15t cog.
