stiff quill stem?

I just picked up an older KHS Aero and I'm thinking about giving track racing a try next season (I've been riding fixed on the street for about 2 years). The stock stem on this bike is a bit of a noodle though. The way I fit on this bike a track stem like a Nitto Jaguar will probably be too steep for riding comfortably in the drops. I'd like to find something in the -15 to -17 degree neighborhood at 120mm or so.

I've had good luck with steel Salsa stems on other bikes, and that's what I'm looking for at the moment, Just wondering if y'all had any other suggestions.

Decent stiff horizontal-type quill stems are getting harder to find new. The Salsas were tops. What bars are you using? If Nittos, a really common pairing was with an ITM Eclypse stem - the clamp is a bit smaller than most (~25.6mm) and they clamp onto the Nittos without problem. They're also steel and stiff as all hell. Not particularly bling to look at - Tig'ed welds etc - but they are cheap if you can find one...

I don't have a Salsa on there yet. I have some no-name alloy thing on there.

Best I have used is an ITM Eclypse. Tough to find these days, but pop up occasionally on ebay. Dead sexy chrome too!

I actually had one of these on my commuter and found it to be a little flexy, but it could be the length. The one I have is 130mm - too long for this particular bike. I ended up getting this:

Columbus Thron with ugly welds for $21.50. The design is more than a little like a Salsa. 115mm should put me pretty comfortably in the drops based on the measurements I took on my other bikes.

I'm sure some of the flex is the bars (alloy TTT) but I'll try em' with the stem and see.

I hope so. Something's got to compensate for all that ugly.

I had my custom frame builder make me a stem to go with it. I don't recall what it cost but I would guess around $75-100.
