Here it is at 43 degrees - without the banked infield

What's up with these Aerospoke wheels? I only see them on messenger-type bikes. I know they come in a lot of fancy colors, but are they any good for racing?

Not so good for racing at all. They've got an insane amount of lateral flex.

People used to use them all the time for actual racing, then they went away for a decade or so, then the hipsters brought them back for style points.

Back then, they were a fine aero wheel. Now, they're horribly out-dated and much better stuff can be had for the same price.

Can you race on them? Sure, you can race on pretty much anything. Are they good for racing? That depends on the person riding on them. For an average Joe like you or me, we probably would notice the weight penalty before the aero advantage.
On the other hand, if you're an obviously well-seasoned pro like Nickatina, your viewpoint is skewed because anything other than your Mavic Comete/io set is a big step down.

Aerospokes are crap, and anyone who bothers to search will find wind tunnel and deflection testing that demonstrates that. Standard 32 or 28 spokes wheels with a decent deep-section rim would offer better aerodynamics and decreased flex, and they also don't look stupid.

Nicatina a pro? Now I've heard everything.

Finally, the Pista with the Aerospoke is in the wrong thread. While technically a track bike, it's actually more of a tarck bike (Aerospoke, BMX pedals, brake), and as-such belongs over in the SSFG forum.

If a "dirty hipster" had pissed in my Cheerios, would that affect my opinions about the aerodynamics and stiffness of Aerospoke wheels or something?

Who said anything about that? I just mentioned Aerospokes are really flexy. Riding a friend's bike with rear Aerospoke for a good 20 seconds was about as long as it took to realize what a crappy wheel they are.

Yeah all the cool kids wear spandex and ride laps now.

No, people always wander into this forum and think it's like some alternative SSFG... it's weird.
