650c Kilo/Pursuit bike
 

Starting a new build and could use a few pointers. It seemed after some reading around the net that pacers
or Kilo racers have used smaller wheels. I've read and understand the possible dis/advantages it may have, but does anyone have experience with smaller wheels on the track? Good 650c tubular rims are hard to find,
suggestions? Hardest thing to figure out so far is the trail I'll need on the front end and if I should adjust my drawing for the severe drop it will have. What seat angle is most appropriate? The build is/will be as follows:

Spicer Custom Kilo frame w/ Kinesis Airfoil 650c Aluminum fork(rake is ~35)
Star or Dura Ace 7600 headset Salsa or Yamaguchi stem(maybe a Nitto Pearl)
Thomson zero setback seatpost Ariake Jaguar II saddle
Dura Ace 7800 165mm cranks(yes road) Dura Ace 7701 Spd-R pedals
Front Wheel Accell II disc or Dura Ace 7600 to ADX1-S
Rear Wheel Phil Wood to Zipp 360(?) or Phil Wood to ADX1-S (adjusted axle for chainline)

Got most of the parts just looking for that front disk(I know....) at a good price and some good rims.

You're aware that UCI requires that both wheels be the same size, and that USAC will be enforcing the rule this next year? You can probably get away with the bike at local weekly race series, but even there, I honestly haven't seen a single funny bike design at any of three tracks I race in the last year.

There are better ways to get aerodynamic efficiency, and aero bars are now designed around newer frame designs so you can get the position without playing with the front wheel size. Basically, you can make it up as a fun bike, but if you're going to be racing, you'll find some referee won't let you start the races you want to race. I'd suggest you use the parts on a standard track frame. You can go 650 both front and rear if you need to, but for good options in equipment and for versatility/interchangeability on the infield, I'd just suggest 700C. Perhaps not what you wanted to hear, but if you're racing, you are perhaps setting up a bike you won't be able to race or won't want once you see the limitations.

Sorry I meant 650c Front AND Rear. So yes it would be legal. Heard this before as I have a 650/700c funny TT bike. Had a feeling you of all people would say it if someone didn't;). The drop will be severe because of the very short 3.5-3.625" headtube. That's kind of why I wonder about adjusting the TT length, don't know if I should compensate for it or as I'm VERY flexible simply have a VERY aggressive geometry :love: . Sam

Ive seen guys riding bikes with dual 650 wheels. Whats the requirments that allows somone to do that?
