Tubular Tyres (picked it up today at the post)
 

Hey all',

Bidded for a tubular tyres...and i discovered the little holes between the wall of the tyres and the rims tape thingo does it matter??

Vittorias shouldn't be peeling loose that quickly. Were those glued and mounted already? The photos aren't good but the base tape looks like it was glued to a rim and then removed. That kind of puckering in the base tape usually happens when the tire has been glued up and then removed. A little puckering at the valve stem can be normal, and small puckers develop when you remove a glued-on tire. If the puckers only go in a few millimeters, then it's not too much of a problem but if they go farther than that I'd suggest you return them (this was an eBay win?). From what I can see in the photos they look like new take-offs from a glued-up but not ridden wheel. You should still reasonably expect the base tape to be stuck on properly -- if removed properly you don't have to knock it loose.

Better Pictures

Is that just one short section, perhaps a couple inches long? Everything else is OK? If so, then I'd just reglue that short section for complete safety, since a short section is usually a starter for a longer separated region. The proper way to do it is with latex adhesive (from Home Depot, carpetlayer's adhesive), but in a pinch you can do a short little stretch with rim cement just so you don't have a starting point for separation. At some point if you took this tire off yourself you'd probably see some of the same, though on a new tire it's a bit unfortunate, especially a Vittoria which tends to have pretty good adhesion.

Check the rest of the tire and inflate it overnight at max racing pressure to be sure it doesn't have any other faults before you glue it up again.
