Hed 3 track chainline issues
 

My rear Hed3 seems to have too wide of a chainline line. Its about 50mm instead of 42-44mm. Has anyone else had this? Is there something I can do for a straight chain other than change my bottom bracket?

Yours looks newer than mine (which say Specialized on them...)-- what kind of adapter do you have to put the track cog on?

My front and rear are identical (threaded for a freewheel) and you decide whether it's a front or rear by which axle you put on. I have a big thread-on adapter that moves the cog out to the right spot-- if the adapter is the wrong thickness it will put the cog in the wrong spot.

On yours it looks like moving spacers around and/or changing their sizes could fix your problem without doing anything with the BB.

Thanks. I don't believe this one could ever be used as a front and the whole hub seems to be designed to be track. I don't think its a track adapter on there, its a track hub... but i've not seen anyone else's HED rear wheel up close to compare. It does have a spacer on each side and maybe as you said somehow that could be changed to move the cog over. But I was thinking that would also move the wheel over (out of center), too. But maybe not really. its worth trying.

How about you get a wheel that was designed for track and you wont have to use a ****ty adaptor?? I dont think its dangerous or anything but It certainly makes it a pain in the ass when 99% or track cranks / hubs are a 40/41mm chainline. Im not saying that old standards are always and forever will be the only way to go, but things usualy a standard for a good reason.


Sell the POS and buy a proper wheel!

Though the picture is gone, I'm reasonably certain that the OP has tried to thread a track cog onto a freewheel hub. This would account for the wonky chainline.

If that's the case, then just buy the Hed track adapter that they sell on their website. It works fine, though it has no provisions for a lockring.
