Track bike, is this worth $2000 AUS??

Is this a good deal?

http://www.bikeexchange.com.au/bikes/show/100072916

It has been used for a year, no scratches, no crashes/damage. Have checked it.

I've got a refundable deposit on it, just want to make sure its a good deal from more experienced cyclists.

Your help would be much appreciated!

Nice bike, but if the front wheel is 26" and the rear is 700c (which I _think_ is the case) the bike is illegal for UCI competition. That may not matter to you.

I think that one could assemble a comparable and UCI-legal track bike for that much, or considerably less.

How so? $2000 Aus = $1650 USD.

Yeah, forgot about the conversion rate.

Regardless, that's not a great deal for $1600.

The retail on those frames is only around 2K.

So basically you're paying $2K for a used frame/forks and a bunch of what appear to be junk parts. As one of the other guys said it's not race legal in it's current setup, you need 2 wheels the same diameter.

I've seen those old HED discs going on ebay for a few hundred.

If it was me, I'd buy spend a few extra bucks by buying the frame/forks then putting a decent build on it.

I'm personally racing on one of those frames at the moment. It's not bad.

My build is:

Hillbrick frame/forks
Miche rear disk (Zipp 900)
TWE front carbon 50mm or X-treme 80mm front carbon
TWE cranks/rings
Thomson stem
Easton EC90 track bars

I got mates rates on quite a bit of the above, but my total build cost was only about $3,500 (AU).

It depends, if you are fast and like the bike - buy it.

If you are not fast don't buy it. Everyone will expect extortionate speed on that and you'll have to deliver - Otherwise they will laugh and you will cry.

Thats why I ride a pile of sh*t and take 'em by surprise
