Frisco Superdrome Might Become a Parking Lot

No joke, the Frisco Superdrome is situated on land owned by the Preston Ridge campus of Collin College and they are wanting to bulldoze it to make way for a parking lot. That's throwing 15 million dollars down the drain. Read more from local media Frisco's Velodrome Could Be Torn Down
and I also wote about it on my blog.

So will Save the Superdrome be the battle cry in Dallas anytime soon?

Chris

Geeze, sounds like what they did in Canada, when they litterally tore down a velodrome over night without telling anyone ahead of time.

I do not think this will happen. I am convinced this is a ploy by the CC to get enough pressure to ensure they can build the garage closer to a residential neighborhood.

Per an article I read, the Frisco City Manager is against the idea.

To get a better perspective, read some of the recent threads on this forum >>> https://txbra.org/forum3/index.asp?pa...der&forumID=16

I have personally spoken with people who have emailed the mayor and the city council members, and it's clear that this is just a necessary step in "exploring" options. The college doesn't want to pay the relatively modest amount it will take to fix the privacy issues with the garage on the existing site, but they will not want to pay much more to demolish the Superdrome. The college owns the land on the Supedrome site, however, they have leased it to the city, so they cannot take unilateral action w/o city consent, and it's virtually certain that they won't get it for Option 3 to demolish the Superdrome. Nonetheless, there are political issues at work here, since the city is very pro-Superdrome but the college is fairly anti-Superdrome.
