where to buy track bike?

Where's a good place to buy a track bike, given that I don't really know what I'm looking for? I'd be willing to spend probably about $800-1000. It seems most local bike shops don't stock track bikes, so I can't really try anything out :(.

If you really are in Seattle as your profile states, then you should ask around up there. You may be looking in the wrong places.

I would scour craigslist. I'm also from seattle, and there's plenty of choices. Just set the category to "bicycle" and type in track bike or fixed gear

I wouldn't buy the first thing you see at your lbs. Velo bike shop is great in seattle, they have a bunch of track bikes. There's also a track specific store in ballard. Seattle is full of "fixies".

800-1000 will get you a complete entry level bike, and I recommend getting a complete. Best bang for your buck, you should swap out things that fit you personally (stem, saddle, pedals), and upgrade as needed.

As far as specific models go: Fuji Track Pro, Trek t1, Felt tk3, Motobecane track (great deal for a beginning trackie, duraace!), cannondale capo are all beginning alu frames. Because I don't know much about your situation (experience, fit, what you're looking for) I think that's the most I can help with right now.

Good luck! :)

Thanks guys. Yeah, I'm a beginner, and have taken an intro track class, but not much else. (Coming from road biking.) I called around to like 10 bike shops, but none actually stocked track bikes (they could order them, of course). I wanted to actually try them out since I'm still new and don't know exactly what I want.

But I haven't tried Velo or that track-specific place in Ballard (do you know the name?), so thanks Sebster! I'll try there and see where that takes me..
