One thing I noticed from last year's racing is that teams seem not to matter at all on the track.

On the road, people have strategies & try to deliver people wearing the same colours to the line regardless of their own placement and so forth but the track is largely a free-for-all on events not explicitly meant for teams, and even on team events ( madison, etc ) partners are chosen more or less arbitrarily ( two members from A and two members from B might form AB + AB matches ) based on friendships or other factors

Burnaby happens to be a particularly small track community so there are never really more than 2 or maximum 3 members from a (road) team so that probably has a lot to do with it, but I'm just curious if this is typical of all tracks, or just ours?

I've seen teamwork in local racing as well as national-level racing.

I noticed this at my local as well, and most importantly, at our track carnival, and regional champs. Our club was a mish mash of new and older guys, and looking back, I'm suprised that some of the more experienced guys didn't suggest some tactical plays. For the longer 10 lap (397m track) races, we really should have worked together. Prizemoney was on offer, so I would have been happy to split with others that did work.

I was more a victim of team tactics at the regional in a 20 lapper (same track). There were only 2 of us from our club and 8 from another. My "team mate" couldn't keep up, so I just mixed it with the other club. I got sling shot off the back during the rotations, but was able to keep the same pace as the lead bunch. After a couple of laps I was able to close the gap slightly. One of the other club riders hung there with me, but when I tried to rotate with him he slowed down noticeably. But when I took the lead, he stayed with me. In the end I knew I just had to do it myself (my Cadel moment) Didn't manage to get there in the end, but came in 4th overall as more of the other team dropped away.

I put it down to a lack of experience being my first season, and now about to head into my second I am more educated and wiser. I have begun my journey up the learning curve.

I've also seen (and sometimes been part of) a lot of team action at local and national level racing. Because you can see pretty much everything all the time you don't even have to go in with much of a plan if you know your teammates well-- you can work things out on the fly pretty well.

I see team work more when clubs visit other tracks, but on the home turf people know the other riders pretty well and just take it from there.

I don't see too much team work on cat 4-5 road and crit races either, much more on the cat 1-3 races.
