Outdoor Velodrome Openings

I'm just curious, when does the season get going on the outdoor velodromes get going for you? The Commonwealth legacy velodrome in Victoria is just starting to get their season going, with all sorts of great programs. It's going to be nice not to have to ride the ferry to go ride a track.

Here in St Louis our track is in a park, so you can ride it anytime you want. The race program is going to start at the end of May.

I'm lucky. I live in California, so training sessions are all year. Racing starts this weekend.

Racing on the outdoor velodromes here in Melbourne (Australia) usually start early October and run till early April (this Saturday is my clubs last Saturday afternoon for the season). Even though most States here also have indoor velodromes, our States and Nationals are usually also still held through the summer months following a track summer and road winter schedule.

Otherwise we have racing Tuesday and Thursday nights year round at DISC (Darabin Indoor Sports Centre). This is one of two indoor velodromes we have here in Melbourne, though the main velodrome is a multi use stadium and only is used for events such as next weeks UCI Track World Championships.

Dick Lane Velodrome in Atlanta is open for training year-round. Racin and kids programs run a full 6 months, from the first week of April until the last week of September. The moderate winters allow for this.

It's a classic case of short turn gains, long term pain. Victoria's track is closed through the winter because as soon as it gets damp, the paint get super-slick. We eventually want to get grippier paint and be able to train year-round.

The San Diego Velodrome is open year round.
Our racing season starts April 10th known as TNR (Tuesday Night Racing) until the end of Sept.
