    Track wheelset advice

    Recently got a good deal on a HED H3 rear track tubular and a Zipp 808 front track tubular... I know this is a unconventional setup. Think I will be fine with it on an outdoor concrete velodrome?

    Might have issues with heavy crosswinds and your 808.

    Outdoor means wind, which can blow you around, and if you are a small person you can get thrown around with almost no wind at all. Even big guys like Carleton gets some issues with deep wheels with wind. I am a smaller guy (5ft10, 165-170lbs) and I just cannot ride anything deep.

    Thanks guys!

    I figured I may have an issue with wind on some days with any aero wheels. My training spoked wheelset should help out on days that are very windy. Coach and others at the track say I'll be fine, I'm 6ft, 190lbs. I really just didn't want to get or pay for a disc for the rear and think tri spoke looks a hell of a lot cooler.

    I wondered if anyone might speak to the specific combination and its effectiveness.

    Seems like the only people I see riding a tri spoke in the rear and deep rim on the front is in Triathlons, specifically Kona.

    Non disc at Kona only as they are banned there due to the sometimes extreme winds on the lava plains...

    Disc on the back on the track will be marginally faster than the Tri spoke. But the 808 on the front in conjunction with the H3 will be fast.*

    If well glued, the Vittoria is a good tire for outdoor tracks.

    The back wheel is hidden behind a lot frame material, and human body. The front wheel is very very exposed. An aero front does more than a rear.
