Congrats Rob on all the racing and the medal.
Yes, it was an awesome weekend indeed. Though I was not so glad (j/k) to see so many Out-of-Ontario riders for the "Provincials". Isn't Provincials supposed to be for the citizens of the Province? Damn, I could hardly keep up with local heroes anyways, and now had even more to catch up to.
But seriously, it was lots of fun. Great turn out, especially for Ed Veal's Hour Record.
I sucked at my first attempts at Individual Pursuit, Sprint, 500m TT and Keirin. Got 14th out of ±22 riders in Scratch, while got lapped in the Points race. Keirin was fun, enjoyed it totally, and kept my last place safely in my hands every round. I would totally do it all over again.
I'm totally burnt out after so much racing, feel like going for a massage every day, but wife will suspect something if I do. LOL

Track provincials last weekend. Great turn out, its amazing seeing so many new faces but still having that small community feel where everyone is just a bunch of friends. Mostly...
Anyway, I got bumped into Elite at the last minute so had to ditch my master's team pursuit team. Im 31 and thought I could sneak into master A but have an elite license still that I've already used. Oh well. They still won with my replacement.
Kilo: For some reason its the only event I truly want to get faster at. I did a horrible 1:15.4 at Nationals in January and a 1:12.6 this weekend. Power data was 100w higher across the entire run. It was only 5th in Elite but it was a huge personal win with 3 months of hard track training. 6 months until Nationals again and hoping to find 1:10s. My opening lap is worth a second on its own...
Pursuit: Was pretty bummed I had to ride a 4k instead of 3k, I really didn't train for the longer distance mentally. I went out hard, was 2nd for the first km. Last 2km were awful, fell to 4th (but got a medal since one was american). Power was good though, right at 400w which was a PB.
Flying 200: first timed 200 at this track. I had done 100 of them in training with just personal data and was hitting 61-63kmh top speed so was hoping for 12.0. Went out pretty lazy and managed a 11.9 with much less than PB power for the 200. Came off much less sore than usual. I think with a proper warm up and my head more in the game an 11.7 could be there. Still happy, managed 6th in the sprint.
Sprint: I wanted to bow out since I had the 4k right in the middle, but it was going to screw things up so I went out for the show of it. The 5-8 race was pretty much the same, it was right after the 4k so I cared very little.
Scratch: Not going to comment too much since there is some background noise going on, but 20 guys, 9 of them on the same team, coach on the safety zone. You can imagine how it went...
Kierin: Way too early on way too nice of a day, so I slept in and went for a recovery ride instead lol
awesome exhausting weekend. Glad so many Americans came up, I think the sprint field was half from the US.

What's the speed differential compared to FCV?

Milton is definitely faster, if nothing else the lack of G force in the corners.
I haven't been to FCV since christmas but I was topping out around 8.9 there which is only 55kmh, where right away I was hitting 58s at Milton (and now low 60s). 11.9 on 250 translates to 8.0 at FCV which I don't think I could do without folding a wheel. You also can't get a good jump as even at the top of the track there is too much positive G that you can't stand.

didn't race last week and was sick the first week but still raced. i decided to just attack and shell the sprinters as much as i could. it was difficult since the races for 3/4s are so short. since i was feeling better this week i decided to be patient with my attacks (still trying to soften up those damn sprinters). i ended up taking the 3/4 omnium (3rd scratch, 1st points, 2nd miss and out). sitting on 20 points towards my 2. i need to grab the rest before they make the 3s race with the 1/2s.
these trackies have huge legs! so jeally.

Those look like scuba goggles
EDIT those turns look flatter than our straights! I have to make it out there sometime.

Glad to see this thread has legs. I didn't race (or ride much, or post here, if I'm honest) 2014 at all. I've ridden my bike exactly once so far this year. A confluence of excuses, as usual. I'm hoping to get back on the bike some this year, we'll see. Might even make it to the track to make a fool of myself, we'll see.

So far this season, I've had half a dozen races cancelled due to bad weather, three weeks of bronchitis, and chewed up my left knee with a hedge trimmer. Enough with my excuses, I admit it, I only have 31 races thus far this season.
BTW, I got 3rd overall in the Masters 50+ at the 6 Days of Kissena. It was a fun series and got to meet a number of good folks that call Kissena their home track.

Last cat 5 week.
Scratch, sat behind 3 teammates, they let one go, I waited a couple seconds and went (500m). They made me move a good bit up to get around but I ended up catching and winning.
Points, they only give us 10 laps (2 sprints). I sat at the top watching for 2 laps, teammate takes of from bottom, I go down to follow the train. Teammate gets away, one goes after, I'm at the front and let him go. He fades, teammate stays away. I stay near the front not pulling through, teammates stays away again and wins.
Elimination, super fun and Teammate and I took 1-2 easily.
Next week, cat 4!

Two omniums this weekened.
Friday night indoors.
We had our largest 1/2/3 field ever here with 18, including the usual assortment of national champions, future Olympians, and ex-Olympians (Giddeon Massie). 1) Belgian Win-n-Out. 2) Scratch race. 3) Points race.
Saturday outdoors.
Drove down to San Diego to support their Saturday Night series (they have a very lively Tuesday Night series, but not so much for the sanctioned Saturday nights). Only 7 for the 1/2/3. 1) Super Sprint. Miss-n-Out down to 4, then a 2k scratch. 2) 3k Tempo. 3) 10k Points.
Teammate in the 4s:

I have been racing on a track in NJ (GSVA) the last two Wednesdays. The first week I finished 3rd twice (unknown distance and scratch) ended up 4th in the omnium. Last week, I had a 3rd in a chariot and so so the other events. Still wound up 4th in the omnium; no wins yet this year. This Wednesday will be my last track race till July as crit season picks up in NJ. Really itching to get the monkey off my back and get the first W of the year on Wednesday

Raced. 4/5. ~15 of us.Scratch part 1, bad sprint, 4th.Scratch part 2, 3 man break at the start, attacked with 700 to go and the field closing in. Caught 50 from the line. 4th.20 lap points, 3rd, 3rd, 4th, 1st. I think 3rd ish for the race.Elimination, moved to front and below the red, got caught sleeping for a half second and suddenly I was out. 7th.Fun stuff. It's just training for me (primarily race road), so second workout of the day

Not really a race but ivbp had a time trial day yesterday. I managed identical times to my times last August in the 200, 1000, 4000, which Im actually happy with considering I trained right through this one. Even had some pretty wicked DOMS from the gym the day before lol. Im sure if I actually tapered down it would have been closer to PBs.
Odd being outside on the track though, Ive done nearly 1500km on the indoor track this winter and this was my first outside this year. Wind is funny.

Opening Night at the NSC Velodrome last night was a huge deal after we fought to keep the velodrome up and running.
My best race of the evening came in our 60-lap scratch race. It was totally strung out from the gun and attacks started going early - by about 15 or 20 laps in, I was in a group of 5 that was lapping the field. Two of the guys were pretty wasted already - one had been struggling to take pulls, and the other had bridged solo to the other 4 of us and burned a pretty big match.
Once we made the lap there were a few probing attacks and then one of the group, who has a few master's world championships under his belt (pursuit, team pursuit), launches a haymaker. I'm boxed in and can't respond immediately, watching him open up distance, thinking "I don't have a lot of time before I have to get across this gap." I wait a half a lap, in shelter, and then jump. Hard. And I'm closing on him - I make connection. It was a bridge I'll remember for a while.
And it meant that I have to 2-man TT for another 30 laps. Pretty early on it's obvious to me that he's not gonna do me many favors. We're taking lap pulls until I take a half a lap one, and then he's taking half-lap pulls. I try a few things but I'm not getting any more out of him than he'll get out of me. Bummer, but fair. It's also obvious that he doesn't want to take another lap - yeah, that would probably be better for me than for him.
As we get down to 5, 4 laps to go, I start wanting to beat him. I skip a pull. With 3 laps to go we're looking at each other - but what's left of the pack starts closing a little bit. And then, all of a sudden, they're dangerously close. We're effing around and can't afford to. So I decide to lose the race, so I wouldn't lose it more. I launch from 2.5 to go, knowing full well that he'll be able to respond. And with half a lap to go he easily outsprints me.
But we hold off the charging field and I take 2nd after working my ass off for it.

Those are the tough decisions, and sometimes there just isn't a right answer. I wish our points races were 60, but they were 40 for each of this 6-event series. Catering to the sprinters... which I guess is a decent tradeoff if it means the big fields we've been getting. Really stoked you guys saved the track. How'd the repairs go?

The repairs went really well. We were hoping they'd be completed a little bit earlier, but what can you do?
There will be some maintenance to do, as always - some board replacements, and painting, as always - but right now the velodrome is in amazing shape and we'll get another 5 years out of it before it gets decomissioned.
I strongly urge people to travel here to race - it's the best velodrome in the USA.

I was finally able to go to the Thursday track meet yesterday. It was mostly for juniors, but the flying 200m and kilo was open to all. Did two personal records, fastest 200m and slowest kilo . A 11.66 and a 1:13.65. Had pretty good run up for the f200m, but felt like I didn't really get a proper jump, kind of missed the kick, but was able to keep the legs spinning for the whole 200 without a noticeable drop of speed. Think with a little better timed kick I could easily go faster. Also feel that the bike is too short so the weight is a bit too far forward. The 200 took a lot out of my legs and used a bit too big a gear for the kilo at this time of the season, had a great start got on top of the gear real fast and blew up about half way through and limped home for the last lap. The track is a old concrete 400m. The result confirmed what I've been feeling, my power is up(actually way up), but endurance is a little down.

last night i finally finally won a points race. thing has been a monkey on my back and i was afraid of spending years as a 'points race specialist' who never won a points race. seems like i was always able to take 2nd in the hardest races, but there was always somebody with some superhuman strength that would steal them all each year.
it was a small field but the fast guys were there. after the first sprint, our strongman attacks - he has a few master's world championships under his belt. i respond, of course, and the other strongman - multi-time rider of the year - responds. we hit the other sprint and it becomes clear that the rider of the year isn't feeling great. we take a lap but it looks like it'll be a duel between me and the WC.
unfortunately i'm not feeling great, so it's just picking off 2nd in the sprints for a while - until the WC pulls a pedal in a sprint, and i take my first sprint of the night. i'm still feeling terrible, like i'm just holding on. it's a relief to suck up other riders as we lap them and i can get a bit more shelter. half lap pulls are doing me in and one strong attack from the WC would pop me. i do my best to contort my face to hide the fact.
he's so good at positioning, he keeps on getting himself behind me and launching these long sprints. i have to scrabble to get back in his draft, but with 20 to go i'm firmly latched on and i can slingshot around him on the homestretch. the tide turns, and i do the same thing with 10 to go to take the lead. inside those last 10 laps i let 2 riders slip away. i can't hear how big my lead is but letting points go up the road is safe. that actually won me the race, but i sprinted hard for 3rd anyway to be sure.
so good to put my hands in the air for that one!
