Map My Ride App

Has anyone used the phone app "Map My Ride"?
I discovered it last week and started using it. I am questioning the speeds I get out of it. It is supposed to use the phones GPS for location, distance elevation speed etc. I just finished a ride and there is no way I did over 30 mph on any part of that ride.
I was wondering if anyone else has used this.
Thanks
George

A recent thread on the subject with the information you seek: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...your-top-speed

I forgot to ask, was this on the track?

The strava app is very popular, that works pretty similarly. But it works better for distance training. The GPS does not work too well for specific speed or shorter distances.

No, this was a quick 12 mile ride on the W&OD trail in VA. This is my primary route.
I do not race or compete in any way. I wanted this app to do several things:
1-Keep track of when I ride
2-Keep track of the distance I ride
3-Track average speed of each ride
4-Keep track of my Food and Nutrition
5-Keep track of the other athletic activities I do.
On the surface, it seems to do all of these things, I just question the average speed of my rides. My basic bike computer puts my avg speed at 15.4 miles per hr for all rides this year.

You are way off in forum location. Move this post into general, or maybe road.

George,

I've been using the app for years. I do know that when I finish a group ride my ride times are consistent with what my buddies have on the various devices they use. Not sure if this is the kind of help you were looking for...but that is my experience.

Why are you replying to a six-year old thread? And referring to group rides in a track racing forum?

Thread moved fromTrack to General Cycling Discussion.

I've been using it for years... MVP account. Lately it's been glitchy... autopause not working, GPS mileage off, etc. There was an app update last week, so hopefully that fixed the problem. I like MapMyRide because I can log other workouts (tennis, skiing, lawn work, stationary bike, etc) besides cycling and jogging. Strava is exclusively cycling/jogging/running oriented.

Funny you posted this. I started wit MMR a year ago and really liked it. A few months back I got a Garmin 1030. This week I'm on vacation and forgot the 1030 and went back to MMR and found it to be crap! It finds my HRM and show my pulse but that doesn't show up on the ride summary and it cannot find my stages power meter. numerous tries and I gave up. Might just delete and re add. Never seen an app take such a dive backwards.
