Track training in Chiang Mai, Thailand

In the northof Thailand we have a 330m outdoor concrete track in reasonable condition. I take a bunch of Thai kids their twice a week for coaching/riding sessions. The track is open every day and costs 100baht to use ($3) per session. If you come over this way contact me and I can arrange a bike if you haven't got one.

While I have no plans to race in Thailand any time soon, I'd certainly love to see some photos of the track and the racing scene over there.

Thanks for the offer to ride if passing through ianf. As MarkWW says, photos of the track and racing scene would be great to see.

I was just in Chiang Mai in December. I had no idea there was a track there. I was sorry I didnt have a bike with me after seeing the roads leading up to Doi Suthep though. I plan on visiting again in November, and this time I will be sure to check out the track and I plan to ride some of the hills in the area.

We don't have a thriving track scene in Chiang Mai - although there is now a thriving road scene. Certainly here you can ride/train 7 days a week with other riders to keep you company. All different levels too - including riders who have raced at the pro level. As for the track it is open 7 days a week - there is no better place in the world for your winter training!!!!
However, I organise sessions at the track twice a week and can loan (for a small fee) track bikes out to visitors. The fee goes back into eqpt to help Thai kids. I'll try and do a flickr page of phhotos of track racing/riding/road etc here but there are a lot on my facebook. I have two facebooks both Ian Franklin. If you need more please shout. And by the way, alw ays happy to facilitate any rider coming over. Road bikes are available for hire. I have two small ones here for kids or smaller women, one 56" road bike - all for hire ( again, charitable type donations, I'm not looking for cash) and can lead you to a company that hires out Treks. An example of the expenses I have with the kids is probably$60 a month on gasoline, this month $300 on chainrings and tyres, a weekly$15 for d rinks and so on at the velodrome. So all extra helps to defray costs.
