Why track cycling is bad for the environment

This one is worth a laugh. Well, that is one way to get a velodrome picture into national news.

http://theweek.com/article/flipbook/240908/dont-breathe

A proposed bicycle tax in Washington is a good idea, claimed Washington state Republican Ed Orcutt, because the two-wheeled vehicles wind up emitting more carbon dioxide than cars due to riders' "increased heart rate and respiration." You end up "giving off more CO2 if you are riding a bike than driving in a car," Orcutt said. "You can't just say that there's no pollution as a result of riding a bicycle." Orcutt, who conceded he had not "done any analysis" on his claim, later backed down, calling his statement "over the top."

I've heard that the most recent editions of dictionaries will have this guy's statement as the definition for 'grabbing at straws'.

Its mind blowing that someone would have the gall to even attempt that argument. I find it hard to believe that this guy ACTUALLY believed that. this has to be some sort of joke,

It takes all kinds.

I got a laugh that the editor put a picture of a three man team pursuit team at a velodrome with the article. Definitely lots of CO2 coming from all of those heavy sprints at the 'dome.
