Track shoes?

I see a handful of people rocking Bont track shoes ( VayporT or TOne's ), or any old brand of road shoe. Just curious what other manufacturers exist

Exustar makes a lace up. As does Giro now. I know DMT had made one but....?

I haven't tried any of those but they look boss. I'm really gonna do my best to grab a pair of Empires before they don't make them anymore.

Laces are very nice if you are using straps. A lot of sprinters like the Bonts. I have the DMT's and love them.

"Track" shoes are sort of important if you plan on using pedals with single or double straps. And only some sprinters do that. So, if you aren't, then maybe get regular cycling shoes.

For what it's worth, the problem that laces solve is that when using velcro straps, the leather toe straps either sit in the gap between the straps or in some awkward spot on the shoe. With flat laces, the leather straps fit slightly more comfortably. Also, laces allow the rider to cinch the shoe down even tighter than with velcro straps.

I've used custom lace-up shoes (read: cut the 2 lowers straps off and punched lace-holes in them) and they were nice with the straps, but took more effort to loosen the shoe for comfort between efforts/races.

It's really a personal preference. Each system has it's pros and cons.

I really like my Lake's with the BOA system - very snug all around the forefoot and heel, and great clearance with the 4-bolt sole and speedplays.

I just got a set of these for my track specific shoes... https://www.bont.com/cycling/products.../overview.html

They are lace up so I can get them good and tight (they are also the heat molded ones), then there is a flap that goes over the laces.

Did my first track session in them this morning and they are great! Perfect for use with straps.

For what its worth I have the Giro Factor and the sole is starting to pull off, presumably from standing start stuff where I'm really yanking at them.

Really need to put some straps on top of those SPD SLs.
