Thanks! The bars are pre-plugged and I was thinking of going to long finger gloves to maximize my grip. I also got the matching track stem in the deal, but I'm not 100% sure I'll keep it - I like the look of the current Cavendish stem a bit better.

Look into getting baseball batting gloves. They use high quality, grippy leather for a reasonable price ($20-35 usually). For "special occaisions" get a pair of golf gloves. They are thinner and use nicer leather. Slightly more expensive and hard to find a match set, but really nice.

Both options are easy to find, nicer, and less expensive than the popular 5-Bling "track" gloves.

Keirin gloves are overkill.

"Cycling" gloves have a lot of palm padding for vibration dampening on long rides. You don't need that on the track. You do give up palm protection if you take a slide and put your hands down, but the surface of the track isn't as rough as on the road. Baseball gloves are thicker than golf gloves if this is a concern.

Both feel great for standing starts.

Golf gloves:

You probably won't need 4 zip ties...just 2. Remember, the zip ties don't bear any load. They are simply there to hold the strap in place. Try with two and see if that works.[/QUOTE]

You don't need 4, but the strap is easier to get into if you use 4.

My faves when it comes to gloves. Ventilation, protection, dexterity, and some soft padding over the knuckles (hard padding CAN break the metacarpal bones IF it's too strong and sits wrong on your hands).

Instead of spending few hundred dollars on a frameset, I am planning to replace my fork with alpina fork(Quill stems are too uncomfortable and ergostem flexes too much).
I am planning to sell my Look ergostem(Somebody told me that he will buy my stem for $160[without fee and shipping]).
So I am not spending a lot of money on replacing the fork, but I am not sure if the fork will fit on my bike.
The current fork length is about 355mm(from axel center) and fork offset looks like 30mm.
I looked up on dolan website for alpina fork length, but it's not accurate.
Can someone tell me opinions about this winter project?
I am guessing this is not a good idea.
Sorry about keep asking your guys useless questions......

Don't throw good money after bad.

Ride the bike as-is and maybe think of getting a new modern bike like the Hoy.

This is why I say that vintage stuff isn't alway better.

Thanks.
I hope they sell hoy frameset instead of whole bike.
Or I could purchase Dolan TC1, but I cannot find any reviews.
I wish they have 74 degree head tube angle.....

That fork won't work. Your bike is 1" threaded, the alpina fork is 1.125" threadless. I think wound-up might still make a fork that would work for your bike, but like Carleton says, it's not really worth it. What size is your current bike?

It's 52 x 52, but I am trying to purchase shorter seat tube frames.

Thanks, I think I'll try out a couple of glove options. I picked this pair of motocross gloves which will match our team's new 2016 colors.

Yeah, sorry. Go for a frame instead of a complete bike if you already have the rest.

$500 isn't bad for that frame. Don't forget to budget for shipping and duty (taxes). If you email the Dolan sales team, they should get back to you with an exact quote.

But, do your research! Measure twice, cut once, meaning be very sure before you spend your money. At 52cm, any frame material will be plenty stiff for you. Focus on angles, dimensions, dropouts, etc... You have lots of options. You don't need to buy anything this week

Bike is fine as it is. You are potentially moving to a place with regular racing. Race what you have and put the dollars towards track membership / race entries an make use of living close to one of the few tracks in the States!

+1
@gycho77 I have purchased from Evans on multiple occasions without issues. IIRC the duty on a bike is 10% plus the charges from the shipper/importer, so maybe around $50 total. It's probably best to check as Carleton recommend.

I'm not sure this bike will be mass produced because of the price.

Yeah don't hold your breath on that one. It was made in 2014. If you read the article I found here, Sir Chris Hoy Keirin track bike collaboration ? Shand Cycles you can see they say one-off.

Not a question; more of a tip. A lot of guys use skateboard deck tape on their trainer rollers, but complain that it peels off easily. I've been using some anti-slip stair tread tape on mine for years, and never had it come off. In fact, it's a bit of a PITA to peel off on purpose. It definitely wears the tire more, but there ain't no slip on a Kurt or a Cateye at max resistance.
I use it on other stuff, too. Anway, it's in the Adhesives section at Lowe's or Home Depot. Usually $10ish for a roll of 15ft.

I've been using the 3M tape for about 4 years now ~ one piece for all those years of sprint workouts. Later last year I tried a different tape that was slightly less coarse hoping it might mean less wear to the tyre. Wore through the tape in 3 sessions. Back to the 3M!

Hello all,

I'm a masters "fun racer" looking just to do the 500m from time to time - it combines by enjoyment of riding and lifting (I rode a lot of track years ago and just enjoy the velodrome as well). But as I look to get a bit faster, I'm wondering how road riding fits into the training plan (as opposed to sprint training on the road). A lot of training programs (such as Up! Up! Up!) seem to program in minimal road riding. Just curious how various people at various levels (of age and ability) fit it in... distance, intensity, purpose, etc.

If you're a "fun racer", keep it fun!
If you enjoy your road riding and you're not focusing on track/500m, then don't worry about it. Just do some really hard, really short efforts when you think about it. Boom- you're training.

Actually I do want to focus on the 500 as a direct fitness challenge, so I want to go at it in the best possible way (not unlike on the weights where I'm trying to follow good training advice to up my PRs. So I'm wondering if road riding is simply something to therefore view as recovery, is there an aspect of foundation training there, and will it take away from the speed training... Thanks for any insight.
Up until last year I was doing about 7000 to 8000 road miles annually, solo and group rides, at a moderate to somewhat higher pace, but not at all focused on racing. I decided to mix it up by working on strength and speed with the idea of trying for a PR on the track (back in the day my best event was the Kilo; I'd be doing a 500 now). Just to see how far I can take it. But track training is changed a lot since I was racing at East Point and Colorado Springs decades ago.
