Some more pics from today at the track

I feel like the build is complete. The front wheel/tire is a friend's, the front ellipse has an issue and is awaiting new parts. Still working on pack tactics in mass start races. I have won out for both of the match sprint days in my time placed groups. Now on my second try, I cut down my F200m to 13.1 running much too big of a gear for me at the moment.

The bad part is I want to buy a nice frame now... trying to decide between a Thunderdome or Van Dessel Drag Strip Courage. Main characteristics I want are aluminum and stiff.

Looks good!

Upgradeitis is a horrible disease. I own a beautiful BT Stealth, but still keep looking at other bikes...

If still after an Aluminum frame, I'd consider an Affinity Kissena.

What he said. When I wanted a new frame the Kissena was out of stock. I was impatient and got a Thunderdome. The Thunderdome is a nice frame, but I kinda wish I would have waited for the Kissena.

So that's actually my issue. The Kissena was originally the frame I was set on, in the Raw colorway. Either there's a joke/reference I am not getting or they just changed the color. When checking out for a Raw Kissena frameset the site drop down shows McQueen Green as the only option. I have sent Affinity a few emails over the past month asking to confirm details and they haven't replied.

Dalai 06-29-16 09:56 AM

No joke on my behalf. Haven't checked stock levels... When I enquired before going with another frame set a few years ago they answered immediately.

They must be out of the raw. Try this email: Jason@affinitycycles.com Jason's the owner. I met him at T-Town a few weeks ago. He's a good guy and I'm sure he'll help you out.
Hope this helps.

I personally do not like kissena, because of their head tube length.
It's too tall for me.
I have short legs......

jfiveeight 06-29-16 04:04 PM

Jason did respond this morning, sold out of the Raw colorway. I could do a black (frame) and white (components) bike, that would be neat.

It's hard to compare track bikes by reading impressions because people don't talk about track bikes or compare them like road bikes.

Speculation:
Even with the ISP style Kissena I think the Thunderdome would be stiffer due to round tubes. I think the stronger jump and power transfer would beat out the minimal aerodynamics / higher top speed. But it begs the question why no one uses the Thunderdome at the elite level and plenty of people use the Kissena.

I've had the same question. I really like my Thunderdome. I'm the only one racing one on Tues nights, while there are generally 8-10 Kissenas there, both in the 2-3 race and the pro-1-2. I'm not winning races, but it's definitely not because of the bike.

taras0000 06-29-16 11:04 PM

There is more to stiffness than tube shape. Yes thin Aero tubing can be a little bit whippy, but the butt profiles, wall thickness, and weld quality affect it just as much. Tiemeyers have been made stiffer than many carbon frames out there, and it's all because of tube choice.

My new steed... a Koga Chimera
One of our club riders turned right and damaged his frame, he gave me the frame if i could fix it, it was mine.
Took it to the local expert, fully scanned and then repaired, 1500AUD and now i own a Koga.

Well beyond my skill level, but OH so stiff.

Dalai 07-04-16 05:24 AM

Very nice! Since it was scanned, I'm guessing you went with Raoul at Luescherteknik for the repair?

Yep, Raoul is the only choice :P
he defiantly knows his stuff and does a good job on the repair.

did you see the video with him and Cycling Maven?

Dalai 07-05-16 03:08 AM

Don't watch the Cycling Maven but enjoyed hearing Raoul speak. The man is very smart!

He used to service my SRM's, but now focuses on Carbon repairs only. He was also ran my wind tunnel session at the Monash wind tunnel!

So stiff!!! lol
Sadly frame and some parts are not mine...
My friend has 13 track bikes, and he built me a bike to try.
Also today was my first seeing my friend, because he lives in Korea
and finally I am in Korea

BTW roller that you are seeing is for professional keirin racers in Korea.

carleton 07-15-16 11:11 AM

Very nice!
