bar grips vs tape

I have always used bar grips on the track, but I am really liking my lizard skin tape on the road. And with my new scatto bars I have to make a choice and while I think I want bar grips, the lizard skin is really working well on the road.

Any thoughts from the group?

While I haven't tried the bar grips, I love my Lizard Skins tape. Currently on my Tiemeyer I'm selling, was on my other track bike, road bike, and actually got the new Lizard Skins grips for my mountain bike. Oh yeah, I like the Lizard Skins tape.

Yeah, Lizard Skins is the shiznit. I just kind of gulp at paying forty bucks for bar tape.

But yeah, wrap them drops of your Scattos.

I use traditional bend bars and wrap almost up to the stem - something to grab on to with sweaty hands during a madison.

I've used both, but grips for 90% of the last years.

I'm moving to tape when I start racing again because
a) Madisons are the most fun one can have on a bike.
b) Madisons on unwrapped top-parts of handlebars get less fun in a hurry.

At our track we call it bike prom, cause you have to spent all week running around trying to figure out who's asked who already, and who's willing to hold hands with you.

hmmm, I expected confirmation of go grip or go home. Lizard tape is very nice, I will have to think about it a bit more - I am good at delaying decisions for weeks over minor choices.

I have also been toying with the idea of leaving the scattos on during our prom. My initial play with holding on the tops of the scattos did not seem that bad, but I have not really tested them yet. Anyone else leave them on while holding hands?

I use Lizard Skins on my Scattos. Sticky enough for standing starts with gloves or bare hands.

Plus, one roll will serve both sides. So, you get two applications when you buy a pack.

All I know is, one time, I got underneath someone I shouldn't have and it ended badly...

We all know there's a lot of pressure to perform, but coming over the top of the whole group for the first time gave me a odd feeling.

I do not do Madison but I have had my hands on the tops of my Scattos in warmups. I do not like the sharp trailing edge on the top as it seems to cut into my hand. The other thing I do not like is the narrower width in the drops for standing starts during team sprint. Once I am in the drops and up to speed, I like them.

Can you elaborate on how you painted your bars? Looks great.
