Essor USA Bolt 31mm Alloy Track Wheelset

Has anyone tried or heard anything about this wheelset? It is advertised as "lighter than Mavic Ellipse wheelset". It is called a track wheelset but it has a fixed/free hub and is machined... any input?

Never heard of it. The front trispoke is oddly spaced at 110mm. Nothing special about the wheel spec. The other spoked wheels have a decent spec worth considering. The mavic rims are wider. I wouldn't look at the Bolts personally as they are nothing special and Velomine.com could probably build you a better wheel at a cheaper price. . The rear hubs are probably ISO threaded, the Mavic will have a french thread.

One day I hope to have my hourly rate be high enough that its worth it to pay triple instead of just dealing with getting it straight from china.

You can get plenty of good stuff in NA for a reasonable price. I mentioned Velomine above because I've dealt with them before and he builds decent wheels at a great price. If you want a one piece carbon wheel, or carbon rimmed pre-built, then yeah, you can try china if you want to save some money and go lone ranger after your purchase. You can also try FFWD too. Not as cheap as China, but you do get a warranty and customer service after your sale.

Or do what I did back in the day, build your own!

Wow, you just described all of my track wheels! I ordered my everyday wheels from Velomine with Shimano D/A hubs & Deep V rims and a picked-up few sets FFWD track wheels for serious competitions.

Essor looks like an importer of white-labled stuff like all the others.

Personally, I think the prices are a bit high for what you are getting.

That basic track wheelset should be $150 (or less). There's nothing special about them. You can get a forumula hub set for like $200.
