Diet status
What kind of diet does everyone eat? Paleo? High carb? Vegan? Vegetarian? Pescatarian?
Do you eat different style diets or change anything in different phases of training?
I guess this is also the place to share any recipes you may have too...

When I made the transition from road to mostly track, it helped me rethink much of the roadie paradigm I was imprisoned by. As I started to realize that muscle strength might actually be important, diet was the first domino (followed by lifting).
No labels, but short story, I am now firmly in the high protein, high fat, low carb camp. My personal results were quite positive, and the four blood tests since then agree.

Since December, I've been on a "High Vegetable" diet. Generally, my main courses are veggies and meat is treated as a small side item. I've had positive results so far. I don't want to jinx it by touting numbers yet.
I have slipped a little lately when work got to be tough and I worked long hours. But, I'm in a good spot even after that.

My plan is simple: maintain muscle mass and burn more calories than I consume. Most foods are fair game. So far it's worked for a 100lb weight loss over the past 17 months, which includes a 2 month post-season weight gain, that was righted 3 months ago. In total, my lean mass is down only 5lbs per my body fat scale. Another 30lbs by mid-June should have me ready in time for Nationals.

This eating for sport thing has been an interest of mine for a long time. i'm not an expert, but i have a life-science background which helps with separating the wheat and the chafe.
imo, any of these extreme diets are to be looked at with suspicion, unless they have been specifically medically indicated. The ketogenic diet horrifies me! Buy now, pay later..
So with that background; i'm a pescatarian, (although i'll eat a steak after really big races), and aim for low GI carbs, minimal processed stuff, and lots of fruit and vegetables. I supplement with whey protein, the harder the training, the more the protein. The main focus is to eat clean.
Once you wean yourself off the crap, you start to hear your body telling you what it needs.

Ketogenic diets are extreme. (imo), living on fast-food/ refined carbs as a primary intake, and anything else that completely excludes, or focuses, on one 'food group' (intentionally or by habit), is 'extreme'.
Maybe i should have said "any of the extreme diets" rather than "any of these extreme diets".. Only the was in reference to your post, not the rest . (I doubt you over indulge in the french fries and milkshakes, anyway, judging by your apparent body fat %)

Started out at 203 (lol goddamn) and I'm down to 198 3 days into the "recalibrate" phase. Yay water weight!

2. I have a three year old.
3. My wife is grumpy (on a good day...) about me racing.
4. I'm in graduate school (read: poor).
5. I have two jobs (read: poor and overworked).

When I lived in Northern VA, my home track was Trexlertown 3.5hrs away. I still mananged to train all week and make it to the track at least once a month as well as race Master's Nationals.
You can do it, man.
But, I do understand that life catches up, too.
Maybe drop in and ride with your old buddies now and then with no expectations.

I have problems doing something without being 100% into it. If I'm going to race, I'm going to go 100% into it. If I can't devote the time I had before to it, then it's not very appealing to me. I'm a weird kid.
The only track session I could really make it to is Sunday morning lol. If Hellyer was more open, it could maybe work.

And it's not that everything has to slot into life perfectly to be able to throw yourself 100% into something. If I figure I have an 85% chance of making it work and being able to sustain in, I'll give 100% effort. I just don't like doing things and finding out it's a waste, or having my hard work undone. I don't like wasting my time like that. Would rather devote myself to something that can actually prosper from my efforts/attention.

While I don't know how long your commute to the track is, I'm very confident that it's not as long as mine. 225 miles, around 4 hours. One way.

This is something that I can relate to well. Once I stopped racing at the National level I had no desire to do the work anymore. I'm like that with everything in life. Gym, diet, chores, school, hobbies,...
And it's not that everything has to slot into life perfectly to be able to throw yourself 100% into something. Oh, I'm the same. But what I've learned is that as life comes at you and responsibilities pile up, you just have to give it 100% whenever you are doing it, knowing that you cannot dedicate 100% of your waking time to it.

Able to commute to work by bike? Easy way to fit in exercise in time you would otherwise be stuck in traffic...
Considered other forms of racing closer to home such as crits or CX? I find focussing on different racing formats allows me to still enjoy the riding and training without it feeling like a chore.
@TrackMonkey7 - you win! I have 21 velodromes within that distance including two indoor timber tracks!
