Yesterday was exactly 4 months to the day of following a strict ketogenic diet. I put myself on heavy caloric deficit, eating just 1500 calories per day, but with some mild snacking, truthfully it was probably more like 1700-1800 most days - cream in my coffee, underestimating the caloric content of nuts, etc). I lost 30 lbs and I can still squat almost as much as when I started. Power to weight ratio went through the roof. Diet was 70% fat, 25% protein, 5% carbs. Supplements included creatine and leucine (and whey protein after resistance training only). Oh and I was prediabetic when I started. I'm not anymore.

Dr. knew what I was up to the entire time. Can't say he approved or disapproved but he was pleasantly surprised to see my results at my 3 month follow up.

Ketogenic diets are extreme. (imo), living on fast-food/ refined carbs as a primary intake, and anything else that completely excludes, or focuses, on one 'food group' (intentionally or by habit), is 'extreme'.

Maybe i should have said "any of the extreme diets" rather than "any of these extreme diets".. Only the was in reference to your post, not the rest . (I doubt you over indulge in the french fries and milkshakes, anyway, judging by your apparent body fat %)
Keto only seems extreme to those who are used to eating carbs all day long. It was extreme for me, too, for the first few weeks as I adapted. 4 months later, the typical American diet seems horrifically extreme. And Keto doesn't focus on "one food group", unless you are lumping vegetables, ample amounts of protein (although less than what most people assume), and healthy fats into a single food group. (?)
