How Long Have You Been Fast Food Free

In a previous life I was a fast food junky. Over the past 2 years I have been weaning myself from it and today it occurred to me that I haven't been through a drive-through in at least 8 months. For me, eating fast food wasn't about the taste or quality of the stuff. It was just too easy to drive the car to the speaker and order a large #1, cheese, no mayo and coke. Nowadays the thought doesn't even cross my mind to visit the drive through.

Anybody else have a similar experience?

I have cut down my fast food intake to max per day. I have been fast food free for about 3 hours

Working full time, going to school full time, etc makes it hard to resist the temptation to eat that stuff. I used to get breakfast, luch and sometimes dinner there a while back.

I don't think I'll ever be completely fast food free. I have cut back on coke's/soft drinks though. Even though I only drank the diet ones I'm still much better off drinking water. I bought a Brita water pitcher at a garage sale a while back for $3 that had 2 new filters with it and I've been hooked ever since.

I've also cut way back on beer. Had quite a bit last weekend with a few friends but prior to that it had been about 5 months since I last drank beer. I used to be a twice a week beer drinker and never touched the hard stuff unless somebody at the bar was buying shots or something. Actually thought I might have a problem with it at one point as I had cravings and generally when I got started I didn't want to stop. Could be related to my sugar problem though. Going out and having 2 beers just didn't appeal to me. Had to have several. It's been about 3 years now since I've cut back drastically on the beer. I still enjoy going out and whooping it up occasionally but gone (hopefully) are the 2 day a week binges.

Now if I can only conquer donuts! There's a great bakery here in Indianapolis called Long's Bakery. Some nights it calls my name. Everything they have is pretty terrific except for the brownies - not enough pot! Sam's Club has some pretty decent brownies though.

Fast foods though? I've cut back from a few years ago but don't eat enough of them now for them to be a real problem. That doesn't mean that my diet is perfected, but I don't hit the fast food joints more than twice a week total. Come to think of it, I just got some McDonald's coupons in the mail. May have to check out those 2 for 1 deals.

I dunno, I just had pizza and beer after a nice little dirt ride. Does that count?

About 2 weeks, maybe (depending on what you define as fast food...)?

I have definitely been cutting back though . . . tough as it is to fit in, I love the taste & satisfaction of cooking my own meals, and the benefit of knowing exactly what goes into them.

The only fast food I'll eat now is an In-and-Out burger once in a very long while.

Man....summer is almost here and I'm about to become a fast food slave. It's almost time to return to the good old Arby's summer job.

On the topic of actually eating fast food, I try to stay away from it as much as possible, but I'm in college on a meal plan and that's all I have available for dinner on weekends. I usually go to the sub place and get a meatball sub because it's the cheapest one (which I don't really understand....three little slices of deli meat cost more than four big meatballs?). I haven't had fries or Coke since high school. I could pay for some real food, but I don't have the money yet. Next year I'll start grad school and I'll (a) be going to a bigger school with more food options and (b) be getting paid to go to school, so I can finally get rid of fast food for good when it comes to both working and eating.

I can brag about this, though: I have never in my life driven through a drive through.

One of my standard rides takes me right by an In N' Out.. Those are usually the days I end up going and getting a double/double..

Same here cut back a lot, about 2x a week maximum..

I am vegetarian who is into good nutrition and taste and fast food simply does not fit in with my lifestyle. I canít comment on what the food tastes like or the service; but fast food restaurants are a blot on the landscape, their decor is hideous and their garbage litters the landscape. They also seem to target children, promote unhealthy living and poor labour practices. Maybe high levels of taxes, controlled advertisements, pollution legislation and warning labels would help stop this fast food menace. I tend to place fast food in the same category as tobacco.

Took a road trip last summer and hit fast food for several meals. I was experimenting with pescetarianism at the time, so I stuck with fries at the burger joints and had a wonderful bean and rice taco at a Taco Bell. Since then though I've stayed away from everything but Subway and even that I only do less than once a month -- a six inch tuna is a HUGE lunch!

I do get my greasy fix at the local pub though. Mmm, beer and cheesy nachos.

Had a small Quiznos Turkey Lite sub and garden salad combo on Friday after a crisis at work killed my usual lunch routine. Before that, I can't remember the last time that I have eaten fast food. It would have to have been some years ago. Supersize Me only confirmed my long held belief that eating fast food is on par with smoking for death wish purposes.

It's so true, Sunday went on the Daffodil Classic, and biked 70 miles over some really, gorgeous,
scenic, countryside. Had to stop looking in the ditches as they were absolutely littered with
fast food cups and wrappers. People must fling this stuff out of their cars.

Yeah I was 8 days from nowhere in my canoe up in Northwest Ontario and I found fast food wrappers on the shoreline and the closest fast-food place must have been 400 km. away.

it's been almost a year I think. When you say fast food I don't count the salads (I don't eat dressing or wonton strips) or the chicken (I get them with lettuce and tomato only). Granted they are on crappy white bread buns but sometimes fast food is the only food I can get and I decided I would eat the healthiest thing on the menu.

A while, I think. I can't remember when I went to one of those fast food restaurants. But this new McDonald's opened downtown, and I'm thinking about heading in there.

I don't remember the last time I had fast food.

The stuff just doesn't appeal to me.

Closest thing I have had to fast food in awhile are those chicken bake things at costco. I love those...
