optimum cardiac stroke volume

optimum cardiac stroke volume
I have a pretty good handle on zone training but am curious about one thing. At what percent of max HR do we achieve maximum stroke volume? I am sure it will vary from person to person but what is the average? I am not talking about maximum cardiac output. That combines heart rate and stroke volume. I am just interested in optimum stroke volume HR %.

Wow, I'm not sure anyone knows that. My guess is that you'd need some fancy stuff put into your veins and then be monitored by elaborate equipment while exercising on a fully fitted ergometer with mask, etc.
Be that as it may, I don't think it's important at all. Trust your heart. It's doing what it's supposed to. You do what you're supposed to and everything will be fine.

I don't 100% know the answer to this, but I think it's going to vary with a number of factors- namely heart size (actually heart chamber size) and heart muscle compliance, so I doubt there is an optimal % of max HR. You want a big muscular heart, with big chambers, but one that that has good compliance (meaning the muscle is not too stiff). You are also going to get better stroke volume with lower heart rates, because there's more time for cardiac filling.
I know you don't want to know about cardiac output (although that's the most relevant thing from a performance perspective) but cardiac output will be best at higher HR- up to a point. That point being a HR that is too fast to allow adequate time for the heart to fill. Stroke volume will he higher at lower heart rates- up to a point. That point being a HR that is slow enough that maximal chamber filling has already occurred. Best cardiac output for an individual is going to be at a sweet spot that will be somewhere between the HR being too slow and too fast and this will be somewhat dependent on other factors such as blood volume & viscosity and peripheral vascular resistance.
Hopefully that makes sense. Not sure what you're getting at with your question. If I haven't answered what your getting at, perhaps you could clarify your motivation for wanting to know?
