I've lost about 4 pounds in the last 3 weeks or so by doing what was, for me, the unthinkable -- counting calories. I log everything I eat, and know about how many calories I burn each day. So, I eat such that I'm around a 500 calorie deficit per day. Takes discipline, and it's a pain to count calories and measure/weight food, but it's getting easier all the time. Plus, it seems like a small price to pay for something that actually works. I'm hungry much less often than I thought I'd be, and I'm eating healthier than I ever have.

I'm around 211 now (and 6' 1") -- heading toward a goal of 195 by late Spring.

Well another update: i took a break but am recently getting back into biking. well since them ive gone down to 145. well hope to see you soon

Okay so the holidays killed me (5' 10"/177 cm) as I shot up 10 lbs, but I've been eating really clean (with one "cheat meal" a week), sticking to my workouts, swimming, and trainer rides and I'm back on track:

Jan 9 - 176 lbs
Jan 16 - 175
Jan 23 - 174
Jan 30 - 173

Looks like I'll be able to get to 170 in the next few weeks which is a "good" weight for me when I start getting out on the road more often in March. Then I'll see if I can get down to 165.

149.5 pounds this morning....only 9.5 pounds to go :)

Was 180 pounds a year and a half ago.

MotoProf 02-06-07 09:05 AM

It helps to read your stories, so I'll add one more: 1 year ago 45 years old & 285lbs, considering lapband surgery (desperate). I wasn't diabetic yet, but it was only a matter of time. Got to where I was taking the elevator to the 3rd floor. Tried dieting and managed to drop 20 lobsover 3-4 months. I rode alot in college so one day last summer I got on my daughter's mountain bike & rode about 8 miles. Felt whipped. I bought a hybrid & started riding around the park. I have a long commute 3 days/week & my wife suggested I do some of it on the bike. I started taking the bus in & riding home 21 miles. Took almost 2 hours the first time. Ride 30-60 miles weekends. And recently started commuting both directions. I've dropped more 49 lbs. since (211 this a.m.), bought myself a nice roadbike (Motobecane Immortal Spirit, love it) and plan on riding the CHilly Hilly this month and the STP this summer.

This weekend I went on a group ride (Cascade Bicycle Club) for the first time. I was keep up just fine and didn't feel like a fat guy on a nice bike :)

Don't have a goal weight, but I want to be LEAN so I can climb up the hills :).

My only "diet" is no refined sugar, white flour, starch & fried & eat small amounts frequently.

Wow! Great job. I was 185lbs in June 06 and now stuck at 160lbs for last 2 months.

grumbles 02-23-07 11:24 AM

I'm 27 years old. When I started riding in September I weighed in at 285lbs. For the last month I've been hovering around 250, yet I've still been getting skinnier. It has gotten a bit aggrivating at some times considering I've been riding a lot but my weight is staying static. I'm trying to get down to a target weight of 210-220. That should be a good range for my height of 6'5" with a large frame.

I'm still pretty proud of all the weight I've dropped. I'm down over 3" on my waist, and some of my old shirts look like I'm swimming in them now.

I have an advantage over all of you: my own carefully selected "snake oils."
If you help me succeed in taking over every universe and parallel universe, known and unknown, I will give you my snake oil secrets. If not, you will just have to make do.

Sorry!

bhayslip 03-06-07 08:33 PM

well i'm new here, so heres the run down 6'1- 220. need to cut it down. just bought my first well real bike today. goal to be at 185 by july, you know get a beach body, i guess so i can show it off to my wife.

CAG 03-07-07 01:18 AM

I am in my mid 40s, 6' 2" 250, but I am a life long weightlifter as well as a new biker. My goal is to cut about 20 or 25 more pounds off my frame, while maintaining as much of my muscle mass as possible, so far its been successful, mixing my workouts with biking 2 or 3 hours a day, still doing the heavyweight workouts in the late afternoon and doing the starimaster at the gym in the evening (I have cut back to every other workout), but I am thinking that as the weather gets better, I will be spending even more time on the bike, until summer hits like a flat iron (Texas!) so I will likely be dropping the stairmaster until late in the summer...

But what I really need is nutritional guidance, as I know next to nothing about real nutrition, except dont exceed meal sizes and stay away from junk...

Down to 170 as of this morning. The plan is working!
I hope I'll have more posts like this into spring.

fatnslow 03-15-07 10:15 PM

Long time lurker, new to the postings. 30 years old. 6'1". 246 lbs. Goal: I don't really know. Eventually to be in the 185/190 range. Right now? I'll settle for being lower than 230. I was commuting to work 3 or 4 times a week 14 miles round trip. I will plan on picking that up starting next week. Where I live it is flat, flat, flat - but even the little rises and hills that we do have are killing me. Hopefully dropping the weight will help me fly up those suckers.

RevolutionYello 03-18-07 03:08 PM

Hi. I just started to ride. I feel like I should make my mark so I can look back. I am 23/f, 5'6'' heavy boned 208 lbs. My heavy weight does not reflect my body type. I always feel like I am a blimp even though I have been told that i "dont look my weight". I wear a size mens 38 inch pants. My goal is to get healthy...

I want to look the weight I'm supposed to be. It;s such a letdown to always plateau at 180 lbs. Goal weight: 150 lbs.

lets see where the bike takes me :)

archer70 03-19-07 09:39 AM

I am new here to this forum and i like this post. So here I go. I am 36, 5'11 and weighed 296 this morning. I was 317 earlier. I am going to start riding outside this week with the spring weather. I was going to the gym and riding the stationary bike, along with soe weight training. I was riding the stationary for 1 hour and going between 20-22 miles. Wish I could do that on my mt bike. I am no longer near the gym, and do not want to joing one this spring and summer so I am going to get my excercise riding my bike. Another reason for avoiding the gym is I have a blunt force trauma injury to the sternum of my chest, I am trying to get it to heal. Scared me at first thought I was having a heart attack. But doc said no, chest injury. I had previously dropped a 75# dumbbell on my chest from arms length away. So my wife and I are starting to watch what we eat and going to start riding our bikes. I am also at high risk for heart disease, dad had a heart attack, and mom triple by-pass surgery. So I am going to be extra careful. They smoked and ate fried foods, and never excecised. I excercise but I do none of the others. So wish me luck.

I am another newbie to the forums as well and am very impressed with the wealth of knowledge and commraderie here! I am 27 6'1" and am currently 260 lbs - ouch!! I was an avid biker all my life until 6 years ago when i got divorced changed careers and went to grad. school and just let all excercise fall by the wayside but kept up my same eating habits. Over the weekend i bought a new bike (dual suspension as my old bike is a 11+ year old hard tail), downloaded the diet power software based on a recommendation here and have put in a couple of short (5 mile) rides to get my rear end used to the seat. My first goal is just to feel better which is already happening after 4 days of cutting back on soda and drinking way more water. My second goal is to be 210 lbs by September and then to go from there as far as moving towards my BMI target weight of 185 which i think may be too low for me. Anyway - thank you for having such an open an motivating forum and for getting me to rekindle my love with bicycles!!!

Mike

Good luck guys!

Here's my update:

Down to 166 this morning, and my goal was to reach 165 by April 1. I was 172, so I'm counting this as a success.

Guitarman33 03-30-07 05:23 PM

Congratulations Katie!!! Way to go - everyone on this thread is keeping me motivated :) I started at 260 on 3/19 and i'm down 3 lbs to 257 this morning. I figure 1-2 lbs a week off will most likely stay off as I learn to eat better. I am absolutley thankful i found this site and got back on a bike - thank you everyone!!

mateo44 03-30-07 07:22 PM

Keep it up, Guitarman!

kmckay 04-01-07 11:44 PM
