O.K., now, I think I am on to something here: A raw cookie dough diet! Sounds good, but crazy. Granted it is all theory right now, but it seems to make sense to me.

First, instead of eating ice cream, substitute raw cookie dough. Think about it. Cookie dough has some flour in it as a filler so it's not like eating ice cream which is mostly sugar and cream (well, dairy fat, in fact). Plus there is other stuff in cookie dough like eggs which are pretty good for you (I learned that from a commercial the other day).

So, there you have it. Cookie dough to UP your healthy intake of good nutritional uhm, let's call them "things" for want of a more technical word.

Plus, and this is what I hope to be a secret bonus for the weight conscious in all of us, raw cookie dough has eggs in it! "What's the big deal about eggs?" you may be thinking along with thoughts like "Hey, aren't eggs fattening?".

Well, here is where I have the caveat. Raw eggs can (and I know this for a fact) go bad even without smelling or tasting bad. So, you could essentially eat and enjoy a bad egg. Hmmm.... Now, just so you believe that my information is factual and accurate, let me assure you that I have personally experienced the following phenomenon; eating bad eggs can give you a big case of diarrhea.

Some of you are probably way ahead of the game and are already thinking what I am thinking: That random bad egg - that random case of bad diarrhea - is the whollop to the whole cookie dough diet plan. Most of the time, you are just enjoying the cookie dough and watching the weight melt away modestly (having given up ice cream). Then, on that random and unpredictable evening when you eat the batch of cookie dough with the bad egg "Weight drop city, Baby" Oh, ya!

I know people who have lost like ten or more and sometimes really like 30 pounds from getting sick from bad food. And why not from bad eggs? I'm thinking that a bad egg could be as potent as maybe even bad fish. Well, maybe not, but who knows? - Maybe yes. The more badder the egg, the more lesser you weigh.

So, my cookie dough diet starts today. Who is with me on this? We need more testers in order to make this scientific. Just volunteer and then eat and post the results here. We also need a control group. That will be my wife who refuses to eat raw cookie dough (well, she is was raised "differently" so thatís why.

    OK, then, let's do it!

I've even see cookie dough ice cream with BIG chunks of dough in it! If it's so bad for you, then why isn't that flavor discontinued?

Actually, I sometimes get the same results from eating out...

Skip the cookie dough. Wait. How about chocolate chip Ex-Lax cookies?

I'm ready! (Richard Simmons never told me about this one...)

I am a cook by profession, I will not mix a bad egg on any dish I am making, it can kill you and then you will not enjoy your bike riding,

Mike, you and I are virtual pioneers in spawning new ideas. This is really not a very goofy idea at all! It could work! Only, a guinea pig would be needed for an experiment.

While we are searching for a guinea pig (which may take a little time), another idea came to me, sort of along the lines of digestive mishaps. Well, it's something to put our minds to, anyway.

    "Beans and Biking."

These two words seem incompatible, to say the least. Yet beans are perhaps among the most healthful of foods (really.) So the problem is: how to enjoy the health benefits of beans without the other problems associated with their consumption (especially in large, satisfying quantities.)

    I have a few thoughts:

    1) Food additives. "Beano" has been known to reduce bean-related emissions among avid bean users quite effectively. The indigestible sugars in beans are usually digested by odor-causing bacteria, hence the abundance of gaseous substances. "Beano" breaks these sugars down so that the body can more quickly digest them, cutting down on odorous fumes.
    2) Seat design. I was thinking something in the vein of the Specialized Body Geometry (aka "Butt Whistle.") That split back could allow a cyclist to avoid having to rise up off the seat too often, especially when cycling in groups. "He sure stand on his pedals alot!" might be a remark you don't want to hear often.
    3) Technique. When cycling in a group, one might try sprinting way out in front, but that is not only very taxing, but may still not provide adequate "air space" between the bean-lover and the rest of the group. Better yet, dropping all the way to the rear of the group
    (and staying there) seems prudent.
    4) And don't forget that sometimes what seems like a simple case of gas may turn out to be something quite different (especially if you are on a raw egg diet.) Learn to know the difference, especially on the bike!

Pete, sometimes I think you are either reading my mind, or you are really a family member pulling my leg by calling yourself Pete Clark.

Ya, man, Beans! They are the most righteous food in the world. I love 'em. My family hates them.

I declared Y2K as the year of the bean at my house We had beans at least three times a week. I made 2001 "Son of Year of the Bean". It didn't take long, though, before the rest of the family had found their own diet and left the beans for me.

So, THAT'S how Beano works! I have always been suspicious and never tried it - much to the dismay of family, friends, colleagues, innocent by-standers, elevator riders, subway commuters, well, just about anybody after one of the weekly "Day of Bean" celebrations.

Hmm, Beano, 'eh. I may get popular again with the family.

What if your cookie dough does not have a bad egg in it? It would be better just to leave a dozen eggs on the table for a while, then make an egg-shake. This is more predictable.
    No worries

that's it!!! Eureka! Eat a gob of beans about an hour before your spin and then sit back and LAUGH at the notion of windchill!! That wonderful wicking base layer will just keep the resulting heat next to the skin and draw away the moisture if by accident there was a "live round" in the chamber.

    Youz guys are nutz.
And mo power to the cookie dough notion.

The notion of the cookie dough diet is actually a very old one. You take a food that people like. You let them eat just about only that. At first, they pig out but after some time, the monotony gets to them and they eat less. Losing weight is simple. Eat fewer calories than you burn.

Almost any diet will get some people to lose weight and often a lot of weight. The real test of a diet is can it be relatively easily turned into a lifestyle that allows the person to keep the weight off? I can not see anyone living on a cookie dough diet indefinitely so it fails the test.

Diarrhea as a weight loss plan. Nice. Why don't you just go on the zero liquid diet? No fluids, ever. You'll dehydrate and lose lots of weight fast.
