Hey everyone,

Just got a kickr 2017 coming from a cycleops Fluid 2. Everything seems to work ok but one thing I noticed is the noise! Seems louder than the fluid and is “whiny”. Is this normal? I have it on a hardwood floor with a training mat. Seemed to want to vibrate the floor too. I might have to take it to the garage.

I don't have one but my understanding is they are noisier than a fluid trainer. I believe the noise is proportional to the speed so if you use a lower gear but keep the power constant it might be quieter.

Thanks, yeah I tried that and it does help but I use Zwift and I do have to do higher gears. Mainly I’m just trying to figure out if it’s just me or not on the noise. The “kicker” is that apparently they reduced the noise from the first model!

Interesting that you find it noisey...mine is damn near silent unless I'm at a pretty high flywheel speed and then you get the whine. I found that I had WAY more drivetrain noise than the KICKR was making. That said environments do impact the noise we hear from our trainers and mine is on a mat but over a carpeted floor.

For SURE my KICKR is quieter than the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine it replaced. You talking direct drive here or the SNAP wheel on trainer?

It's a matter of frequency, I think. In pure decibels the Kickr is not very loud, but it's a higher pitch than a lot other trainers and it really bothers some people. I found it a bit annoying but not a deal breaker. I will say the Tacx Neo is much quieter though.

To me it is a minor nuisance - when I am flying down a hill, the noise gets rather high-pitched and loud.. With the recent tune-up to the bike, my drivetrain itself is very quiet. And to be fair, my Kickr is the 1st generation, which is a bit louder than the newer models.

DCRainmaker has a dB meter that he uses when he tests these things - I don't know how some of the other newer models compare. It probably matters a bit whether you have the trainer on a mat or not..

Yes it’s not so much loud as the kind of noise and vibration it puts out. I’ve put a mat under it and for now it’s helped a bit

Mine whines too, and I don’t find it particulary quiet. I also came to KICKR from Fluid2, and while the noise is definitely different, it’s not necessarily quieter or less intrusive. The ride experience is much better, though!

That hollow flywheel has to a culprit. It is amazing how smooth the KickR is when on the small chain ring.

I remember 30 years ago with my first tires-on trainer and living in a third floor apartment. I would say I was surprised no one called the police on me, but then I never really rode a trainer until the KickR. I think I'll ride it right now...
