MHR Spike
Hello, all. Short time lurker, first time poster with a question I was hoping to get some help with.
I've had my HRM (Polar F6) for about 6weeks now and have been tracking my rides. Early on, I tried to max out following a 30min ramp up and cool down interval recommended by a triathalon site. Based on that and my vital stats, I figured my MHR to be around 185BPM.
I am:
Male
34yrs old
5'10"
159# (Was 162# when I first got the HRM)
The concern is this: the 25mi route I normally follow has an interesting hill at about the 20mi mark. At about .75mi long (not sure of the grade), I have previously spiked my MHR to 191BPM on it. Today, however, I spiked out at 227BPM. I am not sure how long I was there, if at all, but it seems pretty high to me even though I was pushing a little harder today. So, is it likely to be a real reading or just a computer glitch?
I don't plan on changing target zones or treating it as my sustainable MHR. Just trying to educate myself a bit.
Thanks for any replies.

I had a glitchy HRM that would sometimes give me a HR of 250 - 300 ! They do burp. If it's inconsistent, return it and buy a new one. I finally got one that gives me a rock-solid readout, never a problem. And it's the cheapest one possible, too.

Groovy. Thanks for the quick reply. I'll keep the waranty paperwork handy in case it keeps "burping".
Out.
