Okay, I know lots of you have gone alot farther than this, but I just reached a personal best today and had to post about it. Up until now, I've biked as far as 14 miles, in town, and 10 of that was my paper routes, so it was mostly stopping and starting for two hours, then riding the other four miles. The longest I'd gone round-trip, just cycling, was eight miles.
Today, I biked from Goshen to Nappanee, to a family reunion, so this was also my first time leaving what I considered a kind of "safety zone," actually going from one city to another, and hitting those (very, very hilly ) country roads. It took me exactly an hour and 25 minutes each way, and apparently it was even farther than I thought, about 31.346 miles!! (And WOW were those long downhill runs FAST!!)

that's really cool . i think the personal bests are the best ones, not that any of mine are ever anything else. but when you take a look at yourself and figure out what would be a real achievement for you, and then do it, somehow that just feels so great. congratulations! i hope your family gave you lots of credit for it as well.

Yeah, they were all pretty stunned when they realized I'd ridden from home And now that I've taken this step, I can tell myself, "You biked all the way to Nappanee with a printer and containers of food in your baskets, you can certainly bike three miles to the grocery store." (etc.)
I did take some action shots, but I"m on the wrong desktop (hubbie was online, I just snuck on while he's out of the room lol). I'll post some when I get home from work in a few hours.

Action photos from the ride With the exception of the last photo, these were all taken on the move. Somehow I managed to get better photos with one hand on the grip and the other holding the camera, speeding downhill for the main part, barely able to aim or look through the lens, than I do standing still and holding my breath
I have a full-size version of the one that looks like it's moving (the one called "too cool") if anyone wants it, it makes a good desktop background

a printer and containers of food in your baskets
it's such fun to find out what you can do, especially if it surprises you.

PS, the following morning I drove my routes, my legs were just too tired. But after I slept again, the following afternoon, I ran some errands and rode 7-8 miles, then did my usualy 10 for the routes this morning (Tuesday). Now, going on Wednesday morning, I finally have that funky newspaper bag vest thingy, that fancy clothing accessory with the reflective orange stripes, so since I can carry more I'll be biking all the way, to pick up the papers, run the routes, and come home. That will be 15 miles altogether. I'm ready to go, too!
