    8 x 8

of water that is...check this out:
    http://health.discovery.com/newsbreak/focus/water.html

Personally I feel a difference if I don't get at least 4 waterbottles full on a day with no physical activity. When I ride/go to the gym or dance classes, who knows.

I'd imagine there are a million threads on this; I just wanted to share the article

I would guess that "water intoxication" only occurs with consumption of well over 8 X 8. At any rate, I am prone to Kidney Stones, so I drink lots of liquids anyway.

I can't speak for everyone, but as for me, If I don't drink 8-10 x 8 daily, my weight loss slows down pretty drastically.

Being a lazy water drinker I also agree with the benefits. Weight loss is made faster and general hydration helps with energy. Now if only I could remember that when I am being lazy and not wanting to drink water but coke.

mmm....coooooke.... but then I'll have to drink even more water to counteract the dehydrating effect of the caffiene OH WELL! Off to the drink machine!!!

    "We find no scientific evidence...".
Did they do any tests themselves? It doesn't say. Or did they just realize that nobody had done any studies and therefore assume there's no benefit in drinking water?

I'm a sucker for Mt Dew. I know they're terrible, but I'm addicted to them. When I have will power, I drink at least 10 x 8, actually 5x20.

I read it as saying that you may not actually need that MUCH, and that you could include other liquids as part of your total water intake. I saw some woman on Oprah (how's that for scientific ) say that one 8oz glass of orange juice was equal to about 6.4oz of water (80%). Although I'm not too sure about including the liquids that contain caffiene...

If I drink less than 6-8 glasses a day for more than a day or two, I literally get sick and nauseous and headachey. I eventually figured out that particular set of symptoms had to do with too little water intake.

I feel great with a normal intake of 4 liters (close to a gallon), and sometimes more if I have excercised more than usual.

I agree that just finding out that no study has been done without doing your own is no proof, and unworthy of the attention that this received.

I've started hearing another argument in the media lately. Seems there's a big debate over eating raw vs cooked veggies now.

I can't get too excited over these things. To me it seems like debating whether or not one is going to die on Thursday rather than Tuesday of the same week.

hehe yeah, Webist. Like the whole egg debate. I swear there was a time several years ago when it was plastered everywhere that eggs were baaaad. Now they're the 'incredible edible egg'. The whole raw veggie thing has been going on for a while. There's a 'movement' of people who eat nothing but raw foods. I think I've even seen them call themselves 'raw foodists'. I stumbled across it while searching online for vegetarian/vegan recipes. Okay, yeah, you'll get more vitamins out of a carrot that's raw, but so what? It's not going to KILL you to get a little less from a boiled one!

My HANDS get dry when I haven't had enough water for a couple days!

I suppose one could argue that you burn more calories chewing on a raw carrot than on a soft, cooked one.
