Apple and Oranges - And "energy" for rides

Recently, one forum member has stated that he/she will always use dried fruits and nuts for nourishment during bicycle rides because they work just as well as "energy bars" or drinks or gels.

Another forum member added that he uses grocery store "rice syrup" and that plain old corn sryup and other generic sugar fromulations will work as well as the "high priced" energy-gel or candy bar products.

I'd like to collect some information on the topic. Is all corn-syrup the same? Could most people ride just as well using pancake syrup or honey compared to Clif-shots or other energy bars?

pre-gu, marathon runners would use honey packets for a quick shot of sugar.

BANANAS work better than anything out their.
Ingredients = water, essential minerals, carbos, small dose of protein, fiber.
The original "power bar" and the perfect food.
I bet a person could live on bananas and water for years quite healthily.
Now, if they just came in chocolate!

P.S. -- they come in a wrapper that you can toss off the bike
