Numb Feet

I have noticed lately than when riding long road rides my feet start to go numb after about my 10-15th mile. I am riding with Shimano road/trail riding shoes and they do have clips. Seems like I have a decent pair of shoes, so what is the problem? Has anyone ever experienced this before? Any suggestions?

How tight are your shoelaces/shoes?

I always get numb feet if I am not very careful about having toe wiggle room in my shoes.

Hi,
if the shoes have laces, remove them. Relace leaving the bottom row of holes empty. This will give you more room. This is a wild shot, but try Smartwool RBX Racer socks. You could also try Superfeet cycling innersoles. It all depends on what is wrong, of course. if your foot volume is too large for the shoe, you need different shoes. There is a decent chance you need a larger shoe. If you are a little wide, then leaving a row or two unlaced might give enough extra room to help.
The Superfeet might help by supporting the rear half of the foot (which just might help circulation). Where does the numbness start? Is it near the cleats?

Leave your shoes a bit loose and consider loosening them during your ride as your feet frequently swell while riding. Also, make sure your feet are relaxed while pedaling - you may be tensing them up and bracing them against the bottom of the shoe. I know I do that sometimes.

numb feet

Tight shoes is definitely one common cause, I know, as I have extra wide feet and had to finally go out and buy 4E wide shoes. Poor pedaling technique can also cause numb feet. Not “spinning circles” or pushing hard only on the down stroke can cause your feet to go numb. I found that when I was wearing shoes that were too small and my feet started to go numb, if I concentrated on my pedal stroke, and not mash down on the pedals, I could get the circulation back.

i get the same issue. have the diaora gecko's? (think it's the geckos) anyway it's got two sets of "tounges" in them so i removed the laces altogether and no more issues. you could try that.

hope you get it sorted

cheers

Get some insoles that you can heat mold to your foot shape. I had the exact same problem, bought "SOLE" insoles and never had it again! They have a money back guarantee, so there's no harm trying.

This is totally my problem...I've been concentrating on form and doing lots of one leg workouts on the trainer... seems to be helping. I was (am?) a pedal masher, not a spinner
