    Food

I was just wondering if it was just me, or do other cyclists eat three times more than the average human while maintaining the same weight? I feel like Yogi Bear running around taking everybodys pic-a-nic baskets.

I had a huge appetite before I picked up cycling from weight training and other sports, now it's through the roof. It's horrible sometimes, as I have to spend so much money to satisfy myself.

We ought to share stories related to large quantities of food consumption. I'm sure there are some good ones to share.

    No kidding!!!
I used to eat like a horse. That's how I came to weigh as much as one.
Then Weight Watchers. I can't eat like that anymore or I'll get ill.
    Then I start riding...

Man it is tough, I'm HUNGRY!!!

    I can do it!!!

When I played football I could sit down and eat 2 large pizzas and not put on a pound. I ate a tonne and people used to regret buying me dinner . Now I am older, wiser and my metabolism caught up. I don't eat like that anymore, and I can't.

Even though I do cycle quite a bit

Oh yeah, if you're riding a lot, you're burning a lot of calories. If you're burning calories, you have to replenish them by eating. We burn more calories than the average Joe...so we end up eating a whole lot more.

I've got it down to a science.

when you are more fit, your body generates something called insulin...i think. anyhow, whatever it is called, it makes the person more hungry, this causing them to eat more. just remember, when you are hungry, eat health. dont eat fast food or fried foods. lots of water and lots of fruit

Insulin is actually a storage hormone secreted in response to carb ingestion. It is important to keep it normalized and not let it cronically spike or it causes all sorts of problems. This is a reason it is important to eat protein and/or fat with carbs to normalize hormone(insulin)response. There probably is a hormone secreted to stimulte appetite(I think they are trying to discover how to turn it off for overweight people) but fit people generally burn more calories though exercise and elevated metabolism which leads to a need to consume more calories for fuel and thus appetite.

I know that a year ago I would only eat abou $100 a month. Now I eat around $150 a week. That excludes the two meals a week that I eat at my parents house (mmmm, free food).

Healthy food is sure a lot more money than junk.
