where do i find cycling specific orthotics?

I have a short leg and flat feet that I think are causing my knee pain. I'm ready to try orthotics, but where do i go to find them? Do I have to go to a podiatrist? Does anyone have any experience with surefeet? Do cycling specific orthotics exist and how are they different from ordinary ones? And finally, does anyone have any recommendations for the pasadena or los angeles area?

I would look into cleat shims before I tried orthotics. I just bought some Lemond LeWedge shims to deal with some outer foot pain.

The shims can correct for leg length issues as well as pronation.

Check them out at <https://www.lemondfitness.com/products/lewedge/index.html>

I ordered them from Excel Sports online because no one carried them local to me.

Good luck!

If you are willing to shell out the money (or have med insurance that will cover them) orthotics made by a licensed podiatrist are probably your best bet. These work well and will usually last several seasons if you take good care of them. The materials that they are made from these days are designed to last. They do make different types for different needs, some for people that are simply on their feet all day and some that are designed specifically for athletic purposes.

Dr. Dan Altchuler. Sports Pod in Santa Monica. He fitted me with orthotics over 20 years ago and took care of my knee pain. I see him for tweaks from time to time. He takes care of lots of runners. I'd be interested in hearing his thoughts on cycling specific ones, though.
