Do vitamin tablets have a shelf life?

Do vitamins have a shelf life? For instance if you buy the super large container of a multivitamin that should last you a year, do the vitamin pills decrease in potency as time goes by?

How do you get the bes value for your money when it comes to buying a multivitamin?

All of the vitamins have an expiration date on the bottle. I would think they would be fine as long you will use them up before the expiration date.
