    cheap Powerbars & taste recs

Can anyone tell me where I can find the cheapest source of Powerbars?
i am planning to order a gazillion of them for next season. Since they don't sell multiple flavours together, I thought that i could just as well get several boxes at once with different flavours... any flavours you'd recommend?

It's been a long while (1999) I ate them last time (expensive stuff!) hence the question. I'm planning to ride fast again next year and not neglect my food intake...

We are partial to gels - the bar crumbs tend to get caught in the throat at the most inopportune times. So I have the same question re gels.

I love GU (orange burst), and just bought four cases at $0.83 per packet. But in thinking about how many the two of us will go through in a summer, especially as we will be in the hills instead of North Holland, I realize that we would go bankrupt rapidly.

BTW - has anyone tried making their own gels? Can you get brown rice syrup by the gallon cheap somewhere?

    Cheers...Gary

Gu is no use.. I'm on a LOW CARB diet so the protein & fat in a Powerbar makes it a perfect product for endurance rides...
No more sugar crashes for this girl, but just enough carbs to keep the fire burning!

Let me explain again.. I hear that for cycling long distances a good combo of carbs, protein and fat will work best. Long distance doesn't mean to speed like hell, but it will require more carbs than a regular ketodiet .. hence I'm on a targeted keto diet (extra carbs around workouts).
However, those bars are EXPENSIVE over here in the NLs. If I order them directly from the USA, they had better be both cheap and good!
Powerbar has been around the longest and I know the taste.. it is OK as long as you pre-warm them in your jersey pocket prior to eating and preferably cut them up within the wrapper so that you will eat smaller quantities more often...

I'm partial to the chocolate peanut crunch, cookies and cream, and chocolate chip CLIF bars... they taste so much better than power bars. I just use them as a source of carbs so i don't bonk on long rides, they work. I hav't really used power bars since i cant stand the texture

www.clifbar.com i think, and you can order a variety pack to sample the flavors

the raspberry sorbet clf shot gel is yummy too

Dammit.. I was about to place an order at Netrition and had everything ready including my cc number and registration when a little message popped up.
I had ordered about 100 USD worth of bars and it said that I'd need to pay an ADDITIONAL 100 USD for shipping AND taxes ... good grief, that makes them more or as expensive as getting them here...

I am hence trying to find a US friend who can ship them to me and I'll try to find a way to pay him back... too weird since I have a bank account in the USA but am not able to contact those stupid ***holes in Philly..

Don't the European or Brit mail order sites have powerbars
    cliff bars etc. available?
I would think that even with import duties it would still be
    cheaper than shipping from U.S.

I don't know.. actually Britain IS part of Europe!!!!
Haven't the British still admitted they are on the continental shelf?

Anyhow I had ordered whey from the USA and somehow it slipped past the tax people! Probably since I ordered it from a very tiny company and was on a friendly basis with the owner.
Ordering from a European company would be cheaper than from the USA plus tax, but still way more expensive than without the tax stuff...
Eeek, I keep forgetting that with sales in the USA the tax is included later on... so that's the discrepancy between my memory and the cc statement I received!

Mmm I will study this matter in more detail...

    Fietser-Ivana,

Here are 2 European (yes G.B is part of Europe) shops.
One is swiss, the other british.
    Velo Direct
    cycle store
You might check some of the UK or European cycling magazines
for adverts for shops, mail order etc.

    Good Luck,
    Marty
