Reebok Studio Heart Rate Monitor Trouble

I just had to replace the batteries in my Reebok Studio Heart Rate Monitor. Now I can't get the thing to pick up the signal for the heart rate. Has anyone been able to fix this problem or know what I should do. I've tried using monitor gel to increase the signal but that doesn't work.

Dumb question, but did you put the battery in the correct way?
