So Ephedra is back-sort of

I am curious as to the actual safety statistics on Ephedra. I am not interested in taking it, and wouldn't even if it were legal but as I recall there were only a very small number of actual deaths from it. Did anyone here use it pre-ban? Is anyone here continuing to use it?

Ephedra: It's back! (Sort of)
SALLY SQUIRES
The Washington Post

It's not your imagination: A few products containing ephedra are back on the market again, after the supplement was banned by the Food and Drug Administration in 2004. Whether these products are being sold legally is under debate.

At the FDA's behest, U.S. marshals in Texas and Oregon recently seized nearly 3,000 bottles of the ephedra-containing dietary supplement Nature's Treat Energy Plus 1.

"We will do all we can to protect Americans from potentially dangerous dietary supplements," said Acting FDA Commissioner Andrew Eschenbach in announcing the seizure.

To bring you up to speed: Since the FDA banned ephedra after it was linked to a number of deaths, most dietary supplement makers have either withdrawn their ephedra products or reformulated them to eliminate ephedra.

But supplement maker Nutraceutical Corp., some of whose products contained ephedra, sued then-FDA Commissioner Lester Crawford over the ban. In April, a federal District Court judge in Utah ruled that Nutraceutical could sell products that contain 10 milligrams or less of ephedra. (Nutraceutical is not the maker of the supplement seized by federal officials last week.)

"The suit is not about the safety of ephedra but about FDA setting new standards for putting safe products on the market," Nutraceutical President Bruce Hough told the publication FDA Week when the ruling was released. "You can't wholesale ban a supplement unless you have good scientific facts behind it."

Even so, dietary supplement trade associations urged their members not to jump back into the market with ephedra products.

i used stacker2 along with excersise a few years ago and lost like 50 lbs and then like 20 more with just excersise all over the course of about a year. Most of the wieght came off while I was using the stacker2. I thought it was very safe as long as you didn't take too much. You really could feel your body temp rise slightly. It gave me so much energy that if I didn't go work out and get tired, I wouldn't sleep well that night. It was tolerable if you followed the directions on the bottle. (2 pills per day and stop taking them for a month after using them for a month)

I was on a specific mission to loose weight and gain muscle mass, so I was using the stacker, eating carbs almost exclusively (pasta and ramen; mostly because I couldn't afford to eat anything else, but they are a good fuel), and lifting wieghts like I did when I was lifting for football. (2 sets of 12-15 reps at a high wieght) I did some research before getting into the stacker so I had a fairly good idea of what it really was and how it worked. I wouldn't mind using it again in an ECA (ephedra caffiene asprin) stack, but it is impossible to find even though it is legal again. I know that most people won't research like I did and just want to pop a pill and lose wieght without any extra effort, but it doesn't work like that, so then people will think that taking more will make them lose faster and that's where it gets dangerous.

People have been using ECA stacks for weightloss for years with very good results. Modern products like Stacker2 and Hydroxycut made it very easy to get the right amount of each part of the stack. In the past, people would take a pill cocktail of epheda and asprin and either no-doze or coffee. The ban was just the govt. sticking its fingers in places where they don't really need to be. I can make my own decisions - good or bad - without some nanny state deciding for me. You can die from taking a whole bottle of tylenol too, but the FDA isn't banning that any time soon.

If anyone knows where to get a good ECA stack from a real store, I'd be very interested. (No f**king way I'm buying an unknown product from some shady internet site esp. if the product is something I'm ingesting into my body)

Ephedrine HCL is not and has not been banned.

It would be cheaper to put the stack together yourself.

Aspirin in the stack was proven to work on mice, but not humans. This doesn't keep some people from still taking aspirin as part of the stack. What could stop them is thinning the blood to the point where 'bleeding out' is a problem, especially if one is supplementing with high doses of fish oil (Omega 3) and/or/in conjuction with glucosamine.

I took ephedra for a few months years ago. I lost about 10 pounds but I would be wide awake at 2 AM with my heart racing. I would not try it again.

Back in highschool, before track meets we would take this stuff called "Yellow Jackets". It was a big purple and yellow pill and even had a big wasp on the bottle. I think it was just a ****load of caffeine + ephedra, but did it work! I swear this one kid used one for the first time and it dropped his 400H time from 72 to 63s. I remember trying to stretch while on it and i was terribly jittery. I was kind of scared my heart was going to explode.

You can get Ephedrine HCl from Here: https://www.bulknutrition.com/?products_id=50

A more powerful stack than ECA would be ECY (Ephedrine, Caffeine, Yohimbine).

bodybuilding.com has vasopro ephedrine HCL, as well as bulk caffeine pills for the ECA stack at very reasonable prices. As long as you cycle the stack and have a proper ramp up/ ramp off your body should be fine. A great cycle is to spend 2 weeks on the ECA stack, then two weeks on a regular non-ephedrine containing thermogenic, then back on the ECA.

Correct, and if you ever look at the packaging, it is sold specifically as an expectorant/bronchodilator. I use it frequently, in conjunction with caffeine tablets. I prefer it to ma huang, aka ephedra. It's cheaper and I find it to be more effective.
