been cycling now for 2/3 weeks (newbie), and my average speed has gone from 9.8 to 10.4 mph, my route is 2.3 miles, and mostly up hills on the road. dont think i'm doing to bad for a beginner!!
i can only go out for about about half hour every night, family reasons.
i think i'm getting there slowly lol

I started a little slower than that, and in a few months I am now averaging 14-15 MPH on my MTB. I haven't ridden my commute on my road bike yet, I like the workout of hauling that chunk of steel. I have a 6 mile ride with a couple of decent hills. I wish I had improved as fast as you did, I'd be flying by now. Congrats, and keep going.
