I was just looking around Cycleops site and found power charts for their repected trainers. The magneto (which i'm training with)requires the rider to displace 200 watts to maintain 15mph. To maintain 18mph requires the rider to displace approx 300 watts. Minus all the obvious variables that make road riding more complicated than riding on a trainer, do those power outputs seem accurate with real world speeds. To me 300 watts to maintain 18mph seems high.
Thanks,
Tom

There's no way that's right. For 400W you should be at "roughly 19 mph"

According to the trainers I'm on I'm going 22-26MPH around 230 Watts. This is very rough but its about that ballpark.
(pardon me if I'm wrong or sketchy, this is from memory)

300w on a flat road, in windless conditions, can give you about 23-25 mph depending on your position, weight, tire pressure, etc.

I have the Fluid2, and those charts are a rough estimate of what you need to put out to maintain a certain speed/wattage. I saw another chart for my trainer (Fluid 2) that further breaks it down by gearing/cadence/wattage, and it was different than the chart that's currently on the CycleOps site.

A PowerTap might not be a bad investment if you really want to know what you're putting down .
