Dips...
No, not exercise dips.... Veggie dips !
I've never been a huge veggie lover. Its something i add to a meal, not eat as a snack or as a meal in itself. So im trying to find ways to eat less fruit or junk food as snacks and eat more veggies as snacks instead. But the only way i can handle that is small veggies like baby carrots, broccolie chunks and dip.
So....whats some good healthy dips? I love tzatziki dip, humus i dont like much, but will try again with some different brands. So far I have not been very inventive/experimental in veggies or dips.
Also any suggestions on what veggies make good snacks, im all ears

I dont follow the weston price theory that saturated fat should be eaten in large quantities.
So i dont consider sour cream to be a 'healthy' dip to eat a lot of every night.

By the way you can get sour cream LOW FAT if you need to. Tzatziki isnt exacltly lowfat either, most of it contains whole yogurt.

I think cottage cheese makes a great dip, and to make it more "dippy" you can add part of a package of onion soup mix.
I like to put cucumber spears and bell pepper slices on my dippin' trays.

Yeah I don't follow that either even after reading your explainations of it. Where did "a cup of it a night" come from. Hey! Even I don't eat a cup of sour cream a night, I don't come close and I like my fat so where did you get the idea from that nickw was suggesting it
Anyway vegedips are FAT you know. Take your pick of polyunsaturated, monounsaturated or saturated but they are fat. If they weren't they would taste like crap. I don't mind a bit of homus but quality is everything. Tahini, chic pea's, garlic, salt and lemon juice are the only required ingredients from memory so look for one with the fewest ingredients.
The real trouble is that you can't buy good quality products anymore. I used to make my own mayonaise from organic cold pressed sunflower oil but I quess that this is too much trouble for most.

I dont eat sour cream because I am worried about the calories. I use plain no fat yoghurt and season it with my favorite spices, I like using dired parsley.

Yes i know most dips have high fat, just because I dont want sat fat doesnt mean I want to eliminate all fat.
And how bout we leave the whole sat fat = bad/good discussion to the other thread so that not every thread becomes a flamefest
But i do agree, good quality is hard to find these days.

Your being oversensitive Jarey and reading too much into what's being written. Its bordering on being a "religious" devotion. Heck even the mainstream are reccomending something like 10% of calories from sat fat so have you added up yours lately?

I put my hand upon your hip
When I dip you dip we dip
You put your hand upon my hip
When you dip I dip we dip
I put my hand upon your hip
When I dip you dip we dip
You put yours and I put mine
And we can get down low
And roll it round

You put yours and I put mine
And we can get down low

Regardless, I know you are trying to find dips that are healthy, but if you dont want sat fat you also better cut out tzatziki. Most of it is made with plain yogurt, not the nonfat stuff.
How about peanut/almond/cashew butter...very good for you (especially the raw stuff although big $$$ and has quite a bit of mono fat)
Homemade hummus rocks, but again with the olive oil and tahini it has quite a bit of fat in it. There are a bunch of good recipes online.
Finally, one of my favs is guacamole....just a couple of avocados, salt, pepper, onion, chili flakes, cilantro and whatever else you can come up with. Great on all types of veggies, although it is high in fat (mono).
Glad to see you caring about what you eat, I wish everybody would-

I never said eliminate, i said restrict.
And if you look, all the 'mainstream' dont say 'eat at least 10%', they say "reduce sat fat to at least 10%". Thats because they currently believe the american diet intake of 14-18 % is too high.
Actually the more accurate wording is more along the lines of "Out of the 30 % recommended daily calorie from fat sources, less than one third should be saturated fat".
But all of this has zero to do with finding me some healthy dips for my veggies

Just that occasionally I look at what i do eat and try to increase/decrease certain aspects of it to a 'healthier than im currently doing' habit. And this round Its increasing my veggie intake which is probably the weak point in what i eat.
