Love those Power Bars
I am on on the go contantly and can eat well for Breakfast and Dinner. But for lunch and snacks I usally grab a power or cliff bar and wash it down with water or green tea. Since I am , (like everyone), trying to lose weight, is this hurting my efforts?

While I find Powerbars great for nourishment on a ride, they don't work very well for me as a replacement for "real food" while trying to lose weight. The lack of bulk seems to leave me somewhat unsatisifed.

For a snack it's enough; but not for a meal. They are only like 200kcal.
So many people don't like powerbars... I still like powerbar chocolate. They are only hard to eat when cold. While riding they warm up in your jersey pocket, and get nice and soft. But I still perfer gels to bars for the most part.

I live on Cliff Bars (quite different than Power Bars). They taste good, are healthy (mostly) and provide a lot of calories in a small package. For riding fuel, PB's are easier on my stomach than the more fiberous CB's.

I used to have a Clif Bar for B-fast every morning. I have since switched to oatmeal. I love Clif bars. Frankly they are the only good tasting bar out there IMO. The PowerBar Peanut Butter Protein bars are good too.

Too many calories for too little mass if weight loss is your goal. One cliff bar is like a whole bowl of oatmeal, covered in fresh fruit. And the cliff bar leaves me feelign full for too short a time.
Great for the rides though when thats the goal, to jam as many calories down my gullet in only a few seconds so i can get back to concetrting on the ride.

If it helps to keep your blood sugar up and stops you from going to Krispy Creams until your next carefully planned meal, fine. Just add its calories to your total. Try to avoid the ones heavy with fructose. Oatmeal raisen cookies might be better. My wife gets so zoned into her computer at work that if she didn't have her Malt-Nut Powerbars at work she would get sick before she got home. Some of us cyclists get so much exercise that we get all the "Good" nutrients we need during a day and still need more calories. Then it is OK to start dreaming about little brownies dipped into fudge syrup.
