Fatigue ?

Since Jan 06 I have been on a weight loss mission. I am 32, 6'3'', and was 236 lbs. I am down to 214 lbs as of this week. My diet consist of low fat stuff and I have reduced my calorie intake significantly. I work out 4 to 5 times a week doing atleast 30 minutes of cardio. I have ridden when the weather permits. Anyway, the last two weeks I have felt tired all day. Being tired makes me grumpy and so on. What should I do? What can I change to fight the fatigue? Thank you.

Nice effort and great progress you are making.

I'm wondering if sugar might be affecting you. I see on your fitday you have instant oatmeal . . . which tends to have a lot of sugar in it . . . as well as sugar for your coffee. Wonder if you're feeling little sugar crashes. Just a thought. My favorite oatmeal for good energy is McCann's Irish Steel Cut (slow-cooking). I add some ground flaxseeds and a banana at the end.

Add extra fruits and vegetables whenever you can. Since you've been losing weight, you might need to increase the fuel for your body (not the calories so much, but lots of good carbs in fruits and vegetables).

You could also experiment with eating something every 2 hours (such as an apple with a tbsp. of peanut butter). Also, make sure you are getting enough water and enough sleep.

Keep up the good work

Most likely you need to get more sleep. Assuming you don't have a medical condition like hypothyroid, general fatigue is usually caused by sleep debt. From your fitday link, you seem to be eating enough calories that you should not have chronic low blood sugar level.

Also make sure that you are getting enough quality vitamins and minerals throughout the day to aid you in your recovery. A defficency in several vitamins and minerals have been strongly linked to tiredness throughout the day. I would recommend taking one "Jamison Power Vitamins for Men" 3 times a day with meals. Also, as mentioned above, make sure you are getting adequate sleep and your blood sugar levels are consistant throughout the day.

Good luck!

I agree with all... but you will have to try diff things to see what fits your body. A good multi vitamin is in order for sure... and then try and eat every 2-3 hours.. even if you are not hungry... this will stoke the furnace and keep an even burn across the day.. that is just one of many things to try... but it is a good place to start... let us know how it turns out.
