Chocolate milk?

Hey everybody,

I've read on a couple of threads here that chocolate milk is a good recovery drink.

Surely, you're all just ganging up on me, telling me it's ok to drink a bottle of Yazoo after a ten mile ride - all so I'll get fat and you can laugh at me??!?!

I mean, that's like someone saying Beer makes you smarter...

Seriously though, what's so good about chocolate milk?

A 500ML bottle (which I guzzle all of) contains:

375 Kcal
16.5g Protein
59g Carbs (54g of them are sugars)
8g fat (5.2 of them saturated)

And varioud vitamins etc.

After a 10 mile, hard cycle, it is welcomed for sure, but I just wonder if I'm missing something.

Ta
John

It's cheap, it doesnt have a lot of chemicals added, and it has the right amount of protein, carbs, etc. You can also use a 1% or skim version to lower the sat fat content if you wish.

I echo Jarey's comments. It has a good ratio of carbs to protein with some vitamins thrown in to boot.
It is cheaper than some recovery drinks and unlike recovery drinks that you must mix and keep in the car for after the ride, or have at home for after the ride, choc milk is available at most corner gas stations/ stores in the USA.

I'm not so sure Yoohoo counts as "chocolate milk". To me it's a "chocolate-like, milk-like drink that tastes awesome". I wonder what sort of "chocolate milk" was being used in the study (or studies) that suggest it makes a good recovery drink?

Good question... turns out Yoohoo is mostly milk products though... whey and non-fat milk.

check it out at yoohoo.com

However you are right in your question... as perhaps full fat milk was the real item of the study.

I figure a little bit of an indulgence after a 15 mile trail ride isn't going to hurt anyone. Slurpee being my drink of choice.
