Ribose Anyone?

Does anyone use Ribose for energy? My doctor recommended it and when I google it I get technical explanations that I don't understand. I go on 2-3 hour rides and am always looking for energy other than caffeine. Thanks!

I've seen some studies on it and they would appear to indicate that it has some effect on performance during hard efforts. The increase isn't huge, but it is significant.
