The human garbage disposal

This morning, having a narrow choice of food, I snarfed down a can of tuna, an apple, a pack of cheap Ramen noodles, and a pint of nonfat dry milk.

Well, you gotta eat! The alternative is major bonk and muscle weakness for the ride home. Now I've got to scrounge something else before lunch...

Then again, reading the labels of food can get monotonous (since I pretty much know garbage by heart now when I see it, and this morning I closed my eyes.)

But John Stamstad eats Little Debbies (those things made of hydrogenated oils and sugar) and anything else he can get, including salad oil. John is the king of offroad endurance cycling events.

Sometimes it is best to just eat it and shut up.

Pete, the apple and tuna were ok ( tuna for breakfast) but Ramen noodles? And dry milk?
Since you'll be scrounging for lunch, should the BF members send you a care package?

I hope you're drinking water before, during, and after riding.
This is the voice of experience speaking. Water is just as important as what or how much you eat!!

P.S. Wasn't it an outstanding morning for riding?!

Little Debbie is my sweetheart. I like to think her fats are hydrogenated in a special, caring way.

I wouldn't have thought a spam eater would be too keen on lunch, Joe

By the way, what is SPAM?

Something tells me, "Pork shoulders and Ham."

This can't be all...

What about, "Head Cheese?"

I haven't visited the Spam (edible version) website, but I've read that the makers of Spam are very good-natured about the appropriation of the name of their product to denote junk e-mail, and even have links to anti-spam resources on their site. A refreshing contrast to companies that get all up in arms at the least hint of "dilution of trademark" (puh-leeze...) and throw another trivial case on the workload that's already swamping our judicial system.

Also, I must say I enjoy the taste of Spam occasionally. Not such a bad product!

The electronic version, however, that ends up in my in-box, I would gladly do without.

I read that SPAM sales in the states have gone up over 500% in the last few years. Some believe this is due to the internet use of SPAM. Very odd...

Could you, would you with Mike?
Oh, andre, you should try spam,
On a bike, with mike,
Try, try, andre,

I think I can validate his figures, by the fact that I took up eating Spam again a few years ago--AND that I eat the leaner and sometimes low sodium Spam.

I believe all those times I've given my grocery club card at the checkout stand, they've finally tracked down my Spam obsession!!!!

Of course, I think these figures would coincide during my "Y2K Bug" preparation...I'm sure you'll see a pattern there, Joe.

Spam is the funniest damned food there is.

It seems fatty. Well, in fact, it IS fatty. At the same time, it is meaty - but not in a fat/meat way like, say bacon is.

Still, you can't melt that much fat out of Spam by frying it. You can burn it, but it stays fatty.

What's up with this stuff?

Sometimes you say to yourself, "Hm, I think I would like a fried Spam sandwich". You actually buy some Spam, make the sandwich, eat it, and then ask yourself "Why the hell did I do that?" I don't feel satisfied, but I do feel like I ate a lot of fat".

Spam is weird stuff.

Well, I think it's clear that it all adds up to a vast...uh...something...

You might take a bus
You might take a tram
You might take your bike
With a backpack full of Spam...

Spam must be a late night delicacy.

Most of you "spam lovers" do your posting after 11 p.m. That's past my bedtime.

I don't think I could ride to work if I stayed up that late posting. And I sure couldn't ride if I ate spam that late.

Maybe I should try it again. I haven't eaten that stuff in several years.

Spam helps build that all-important spamina that's the key to long-term endurance, whether in cycling or in posting.

Look, Spankies:

SPAM has got the protein and extra fat calories, both of which are part of the diet of a cycling human garbage disposal...

Ohhh, woe is me, I am addicted to SPAM!

SPAM-a-holics Anonymous, here I am!

Here I am, let's open a can.

A can, a can,

A can of SPAM.

Let's get loose

With Dr. Seuss.

Dr. Seuss, some SPAM,

Green eggs and ham.
