Is this true?

The human body cannot digest a raw egg white, because of the Avidin found in a raw egg white; your body struggles to digest a raw egg white. Not to mention the threat of Salmonella. You need to cook the egg white to neutralize the Avidin and allow your body to digest the protein. Also Avidin is known to cause a Biotin deficiency.
i find that hard to believe, but that what 'eggnation' purports, and yes, what they
sell doesn,t have that problem.....

You can digest raw egg whites - though perhaps not completely (http://www.fnri.dost.gov.ph/htm/eggmyths.htm).

You are not likely to get a biotin deficiency from eating raw egg whites unless you eat only raw egg whites (in which case, you will likely have numerous nutritional deficiencies).

The risk of salmonella poisoning from raw, or undercooked, eggs is not insignificant. You should limit your consumption of raw eggs to reduce the risk of Salmonella poisoning.

Just because you cannot digest something does not make it harmful. We eat tons of things that we cannot digest every single day....think fiber.

Ok, I was feeling hungry a moment ago, but now I feel vaguely nauseated!! I can tell you right now I wouldn't be digesting any raw egg whites .... IF I could get them down, they'd be coming right back up again probably even before they hit the stomach. Raw egg whites .... how utterly repulsive!!

As a kid I remember being told to not swallow gum because it would just "..sit in your gut for years and years".

Then I'd swallow a big wad of bubble yum and a day or so later there it'd be.... a bright pink island of defiance.

I think the gum you can buy at the dollar store is recycled--the gum companies have some guy at the waste treatment plant who collects it and sorts it.

They don't appeal to me except as ingredients to certain sauces or a meringue. Even then, as someone who would not like to repeat the experience of Salmonella poisoning from an undercooked egg, I try to keep my exposure to a minimum.
