Sore diaphragm or what?

I am a long time cyclist, but a relative newbie to getting fit again after many years of sitting on my butt. I’ve lost 30lbs riding and working out over the past couple of months.
I went out on Sunday and rode for the first time in what I call cold weather (20ish degrees). I wore all the good cold weather gear and was indeed warm. However I had a few mild climbs, but in my shape they still make me breath pretty hard as I get to the crest of each climb. My HR was not at max but it was probably around 70% or so.
I woke up last night with a sore diaphragm or something, because each breath would hurt if taken too deeply. This morning after waking, I did a few deep breathing routines and the ache has pretty much dissipated, but I was still a little surprised by this. Is this caused from unused muscle in the diaphragm, or is it a byproduct of breathing in cold air during the ride? Anyone experience this before?

Thanks in Advance

Did you sleep on your stomach and really need to piss when you got up? Your ab muscles can get tired from protecting your bladder.

Not that I know of. I noticed this a little before going to bed, but it got worse over night. Today it is no problem. It just was a little wierd.

It could be stomach muscles complaining. If the climb is steep enough, there is a tendancy (and a good one) to shift forward to improve balance (and keep the front wheel from coming up). To do this requires stomach muscles since you are no longer pegged on the seat.

If this is the reason, it is a good thing. My ride is nasty, steep with loose rock. I have to get out of the seat for much of it. Because of this I have very hard ab muscles.
